To do Brussels easily in one day by a Belgian airline, you need to set off early in the morning and be able to return in the evening. The first flight from MAN with SNBA lands in BRU nearly 1pm, which is no good. I think NCL and BRS have similar times. LCY has a great range of times to BRU and ANR with VLM. With SNBA from BHX I can leave at 08:50 and be in BRU before 11am. That is impossible from MAN. BHX has the best range of services by a Belgian airline, with the exception of LCY. And BHX has that nice Aviation Experience, MAN has nothing to compare with that because MAN’s facilities for spotters are all outside, so it is a fair weather place. The only thing lacking at BHX is somewhere to get something good to eat. I am not braving the all day breakfast in the Village Grill again.
BHX is a superb airport, the best spotting facilities I have seen in a long time!! I am going there on Tuesday 2nd November to spot, and flying from there on 3rd November.
I prefer BHX to MAN as far as facilities go. Last time I was at BHX I spent hours in the Aviation Experience and was rewarded by a sighting of an SNBA ARJ (the aircraft I had been waiting for!)
I live on the north east coast, but I will go out of my way to fly from this airport because I just love it!! Where else can you have a day trip to Brussels by air on a Belgian airline, apart from London City?

Thanks 🙂
Testing out my new screenshot tool and the mesh scenery I had installed, both are great 😀
Climbing above Akureyri.
Eyjafjordur and the mountains.
No, my tastes have not changed at all. I loved 80s music in the 80s and I love 80s music now. I was brought up listening to groups such as The Beatles and The Who because that was what my Mum liked. I still hear alot of Beatles music now. That kind of music is much better than having the local radio station on and having to endure the sound of Natasha Bedingfield undergoing maximally invasive surgery because that is sure as hell how she sounds on that piece of musical torture known as “These Words” which is played on Yorkshire Coast Radio every bloody day 😡
I could really scare you all and post my photo, but I wouldn’t want to frighten anyone :diablo:
The last aviation-related photo of me (in fact the last photo of me) was taken in March on the back row of an Avro RJ85 OO-DJT on the way from BHX to BRU. The steward on the flight, who had been friendly and shown me the best views to take photos, came up and told me to hand the camera over because he was going to take my photo. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, so I had this gruesome photo taken as I was strapped into the seat. The photo is not a good representation of what I look like and so I won’t show it.

I’ve got the Dreamwings Dash 8 Q400 in Flybe livery, it’s a beauty! Though I find the Dash 8 an extremely unreliable flightsim aircraft, I have nothing but problems with the ones I’ve had. They have a tendency to go nose into the tarmac when you slow them down or apply the brake, and some just refuse to touch down. I’ve had the nose in problem with both the Dreamwings one and a BA one I installed. They are quite tiring to fly, some models, because you cannot remove your hand from the joystick without them going into nosedive, even when autopilot is on.
Just completed my latest BAV flight – a Loganair service from Benbecula to Barra in a Twin Otter. And great fun! It may only be a very short flight, but it is low level so the views of the Hebrides are great 😀 I rather enjoy the regional flying, and now that I have kicked the Dash 8 into touch and replaced it with some better types, I will do more of it 😀
Nice shots Comet.
bmi-star could you please ley me know the website for the dreamwings ERJ? Thanks.
Thanks for the comments. Sorry to answer someone else’s question, but the Dreamwings ERJ is on AVSIM.
The flaps are down because that’s how Avros fly. I put a photo I took on a real Avro to show what I mean. This photo was taken just as we taxied to the runway for take off. You see some flap deployment on aircraft at take off, the amount varies but it’s there.
That flight was more successful that the one I made today. That went totally great, fine landing, taxied to the terminal and stopped. As soon as I applied the parking brake the damned aircraft went nose down into the floor. To cap it all the OSP program crashed as well 😡
I think I shall leave well alone anything to do with Dash 8s in future. The first BAV one I had would not land, and this second one nose dives into the floor when the brake is applied.
Here’s more.
In flight views over London.
Arrival at the terminal in Frankfurt.
I am on BAV as well, and I initially had problems getting the software to work, but if you have any problems the BAV forum is very helpful.
