So, I believe it would even be better for RUssia to sell these 12 fighters, if not for money, then for some high-grade Brazillian coffee:)

Yeah, weird, if not stupid deal. I don’t believe it will happen.

Russians are developing so many different civillian airplanes today, its not even funny.
The last thing they need is Embraer planes.

There’s the RRJ project…Sukhoi & Boeing partnership, with some other Russian airline and engine manufacturing companies.

    Then there’s the MC-21…a joint Ilyushin/Yakovlev project:

And a number of other ones, like joint Ukrainian/Russian projects within Antonov Design Beraue.

By the way, its not a leasing but purchasing.
The eight 737NG’s are being purchased and two 767’s leased.

When 7E7 comes out, a couple of them will be added to JAT fleet as well.

Yeah, its true. Serbia does not care much about EU, especially if the outcome of the Kosovo province status is more dependent on US than EU.

Plus, Boeing has been interested for some time to build a service mainteneance center beside Belgrade’s airport, to service all their planes in the South Eastern/Eastern Europe region. So, more investment and jobs.

About Embraer…over the last month , there have been negotiations between JAT and the Brazillian firm for purchase of about half a dozen ERJ-170 planes for regional routes.

A couple of days ago, this bird visited Belgrade, for a promotional tour. Note the Serbia & Montenegro flag.

Basically, its a done deal as far as Embraer comes. Brazillian railways purchased $100m+ worth of our railway cargo & passenger cars…so in the spirit of free trade, we’re buying something from them;)

As Russia is Finland’s biggest trading partner, which will only become bigger in years to come…I wouldn’t exclude this possibility.

And by the way…whats with all this “Western/Eastern” bullsh1t? A step back?
    What?

People are making it out as if some PfP, NATO or EU membership can stand between Serbia’s and Russia’s friendship.

The former … comes and goes. The latter…eternal.

By the way, a project of this scale could be worth billions.
This is not a simple “a/c order”.

This is far larger than that.

In Kosovo, the Apaches didn’t show very well. Most were shot down.
They didn’t destroy a single Serbian tank 😀
