Here is a question for the experts:

Since there has been some speculation re the EW platform aboard the V’aditya (even the E2C hawkeye was proposed), I was wondering if the following could be a solution:

DO 228s with EL 2022 radar (http://www.iai.co.il/site/en/iai.asp?pi=26334&doc_id=26506) aboard the Vikramaditya.

Some advantages that I can think of:

Greater range/max altitude of DO 228 than Ka 31 (guesswork here)
Cheaper than E2 Hawkeye (if it can be fitted)
Smaller than Hawkeye (so perhaps a better chance to accomodate on ship)

My big concern is – can the EL 2022 be used as an effective AEW platform (i believe an A to A option is offered – how good it really is cannot be found on the site given)

do228 is diffrent platform alltogther is not configure for hard landing on to ship and with awacs type never [too much load]

i think there is bad news for india to buy some 125a/c as early as possi from franch mirage [if india want tobuy it].
reason for this is another thread post here in keyp. that saudi arabia reach on understanding with france to buy rafale aircraft if this happen their factory going to busy to supply these aircraft to them and india could not get these mirage untill order of saudi a. is not complity.

Agree it would be tricky operating E-2s off Indian carrier………as to more F-16s for Pakistan……..It’s only 24 more,…..Pakistan isnt even in the same league as India. And as far as training goes…NOBODY beats the US Navy when it comes to training pilots to fly off ships! The French and Brazillians send their naval pilots to US cause we do it so well

i now us navy has largest air craft inventory since its early day so he has best facilty for tranning.

They could buy the Russian trainer(SU-25)……..I understand Indian Air Force is looking to buy 124? more fighters pretty quickly……..they looking at the Mirage 2000-5 (excellent plane) and poss the JAS-39? and maybe the MIG-29 or more SU-33s……..the F-16E block 60 or F-16C block 50 would be an excellent choice…….I wouldn’t recommend the Super Hornet (Hate that plane) but what bout the F-15E? Or maybe the F-35? But I would have to say that F-16s would be the cheapest solution, with the most capability offered.
