If PAF choosen a western radar. Who will carry out the intergration of the radar? Chinese side or Pakistan side?
But EU embargo of arms on PRC is still enforced, meaning if intergration of radar is carry out by Chinese side. They will have access of western radar and a lot of implication will come in…
BTW,if using a western radar like Italian Grifo on JF-17,what kind of BVR missiles is available for it? I seriously doubt AIM-120 will be available for intergration on JF-17 with a western radar. Meteor will not be available soon….
So the PAF of considering of using western radar on JF-17 as unrealistic?
Useless comparison, because the styles of combat were so vastly different between the Western and Eastern fronts. Cases in point:
– Hans Phillip. He was a master of Eastern Front combat, downing nearly 200 aircraft before being posted as Kommodore of JG 1 in the spring of 1943. He managed to reach 208 victories before being shot down and killed just a few months later (October 1943).
– Kurt Brandle. Another highly experienced Ostfront fighter, he was posted as the Kommandeur of II./JG 3, but shot down and killed by Spitfires on 3 November 1943, not long after being transferred from the Eastern Front.
– Siegfried Schnell. He was a “Spitfire expert”, downing over 49 Spitfires between 1940 and 1944 with JG 2. He was transferred to the Eastern Front on 11 November 1944 to take over IV./JG 54, and was shot down and killed within two weeks.
What worked in one theatre did NOT work in another.

No no.. The example u give are ordinary fighter pilots. While the one I give are untouchable. Haha….
Whoopee another who was the best thread, it’s been a while since we had one of those. π
To spice up the historical side a bit, seems it looks so quiet!:D
There is “Zero” chance of the MIG 35 being considered for service in Pakistans airforce. There is no way Russia is going to risk far more lucrative sales opportunities in India and Pakistan isn’t going to place itself at the mercy of Russia when it comes to maintaining that type.
Look at the issue of using Russian engines in the JF-17! Can you imagine the problems of trying to purchase MIG 35.
Pakistan intends to standardise on American and Chinese types over the next few years with the the remaining French jets being phased out. Adding russian fast jet types (an impossible idea for prior stated reasons) would be illogical and defy what has been a very pragmatic approach when it comes to updating their airforce.
I think the zero chance of PAF of purchasing Mig-35 is more with price and maintenance issue rather than politics.. Remember PAK has mention it wants to up the number of JF-17 from 150 planes to 250 planes. JF-17 is price as below 15 million US dollar. Mig-35 will cost around 25 Million to 30 Million each plus u need to buy additonal engines as spare as it is a twin enignes plane.
I am wondering where PAK going to come out the fund to get 250 Mig-35 plus additional spare enignes compare to JF-17? JF-17 even has the manufacturing line in Pakistan giving it the know how and can help regenerate the local econ and if it really achieve export from other countries. Pakistan could earn addtional income and reduce domestic fleet price!
JF-17 is the best deal Pakistan can ever have……;)
I dont know what reason PAF actually has to be very proud since there is very little if any technical contribution of Pakistani engineers/ designers in this aircraft. May be it is about assembling first ever fighter aircraft in the history of PAF. When others say the same thing, we tend to get angry but the fact of the matter is, really, Pakistan lags far behind when it comes to science and technology. And I am sure of it because I have spent almost 6 years in couple of ‘International Centers for blah blah blah and Centers of Excellences in blah blah blah’ and have witnessed the criminal waste of money and resources in the name of Science. Then after getting convinced about the pathetic quality of those ‘Research Institutions’, I left the country and did PhD abroad and established a formal carreer in US. Anyway, the point I am trying to make is, I have seen level and quality of research in Pakistan’s 1st reated research institution (atleast in Biological/Biochemical research), and I dont think it would be much different in Engineering sector. Taking all these things into account, it really becomes very difficult to digest Pakistani Government’s claim about their advancement in Military hardware technology etc.
Now if things are different in various organizations under Ministry of Defence, I dont know as I have never been in these places. My guess is, Government is using this sort of propaganda to pacify the common public. They have to show some progress in order to justify the military expenditures which they do on the expense of education and health.
Able to assemble how many of them at yr own will and no restriction in future is something Pakistan can cheer abt and proud of themselves. You will have one less worry abt the supply when comes into conflict and war….
Imagine Swedes is so proud of their Gripen and suddenly they goes into war and US not approve of their conflict and decide to stop supply of F404 engines or South Africa goes into conflict and again Uncle Sam not approval of yr conflict and no supply of engines. Gripen is a highly dangerous plane to purchase cos they are at the mercy of not only Swede but Americans too…
(JF-17 is slated to receive WS-13 soon or in future and Chinese may passed them the know how in future…) Pakistan keen to be a main supplier of JF-17 can act independantly and as a stable supply of these aircraft without too many complication of involvement of too many countries..
What is there to happy and cheer abt if u have restriction in yr way even yr design is 100 percent domestic?
Serial number PS off?
LOL the chinese got caught with their pants down. Chinese radar π π LOL..They poor quality of chinese goods is well known. Poor srilanka went for kfir s and Mig-27 after seeing the quality of F-7’s first hand.
So what can India offer quickly for SL? prototype LCA??
Nothing… Hahahaha…
Hyperwarp, what is your take on this? Do you feel that the radar was sub-standard or badly supported (spares) or do you feel that there were inside sources who had the serviceable radar switched off, taking into account the timings of the attack?
Technologically speaking, a 3D Chinese radar would have been better than a 2D Indian one but the chinese are not exactly known for reliability and quality standards.
The reliability of a system also depend on the level of the training of the people maintaining it, its operating conditions, spares support etc
Goldendragon is trolling and baiting and people are foolish enough to fall for it.
SO u think a indian 2D radar wil be more reliable and better quality?
I don’t give a damn what you believe. SLAF does not have night fighting capability, period. I don’t have to give any excuse for what happend at Colombo, it is ‘some elements’ of SLAF who are trying to find excuses which is not necessary as it is a matter of intelligence failure. May be if you read all news reports from Srilanka rather than only those which you want to believe, you may find an answer.
I have no sympathy for LTTE. I consider them a terrorist organization which should be rooted out at all costs. India and Sri Lanka need to co-operate more closely to eliminate them.
I seriously doubt India and SL can cooperate together to wipe out Tamil Tiger… India has a significant number of Tamil population in south India. Supoort SL to wipe them out is just like a stand of against Tamil. THat is why all these yrs ,India is held itself against an all out support of SL government. Getting th Chinese support will be the best solution. First of all China is gorwing strength to strength everyday and they have no string and relation in these conflict. Chinese can offer a huge variety of equipment at great price and quality..
How come SL doesn’t have any chinese radar? Did the quality of chinese military goods scare them off. OFcourse even pakistan doesn’t want chinese radars or EW equipment I wouldn’t be surprised if SLAF went for more Indra-II or some russian or israeli radar. Frankly 2 radars is ridiculous.
Sri Lanka: PNM blast Indiaβs radar system
Friday, 30 March 2007
The Patriotic National Movement (PNM) yesterday charged that the negligence on the part of the government, sub standard radar system and anti aircraft weapons given by India had prevented the air force from hitting back when the LTTE attacked the Katunayake Air Force base.
PNM President Gunadasa Amarasekera told a news conference that India had prevented Sri Lanka from getting a sophisticated radar system from China.
Now I see why SL never get a Chinese radar. India sabotage it huh? How can Indian be so bad?? :diablo:
Btw,going for Indra II? Oh,SL wants themselves to get more bombing from Tamil Tiger??? :diablo: Times to get a Chinese radar, good and reasonable price.
It seems Sri Lanka had originally looked at a more advanced radar before agreeing to the India system under political pressure.
“The newspaper sarcastically said, the Indian radar system should be melted into iron and should be put for better use by manufacturing mammoties for the rice farmers”
LOL!! Did I missed that……:dev2:
I like that color scheme in the sun. Very nice.
Hope trumpeter can quickly come out with a FC-1 /JF-17 model with this fly over decal… I think it will satisfy a lot of modeller.. π
The light smoke trail doesn’t show in the video, and I don’t think its visible enough to be an issue anymore.
With the plane doing half rolls where you can see the planform, the F-20 Tigershark resemblence seems to disappear as well.
The smoke trail is quite visible when JF-17 is doing sharp and fast turn… But the smoke trail indeed disappear quickly. Giving enemy aircraft no way to track their path….
Nice picture. You can just make out the RD-33’s signature smoke trail behind the grey one.;)
Almost virtually smokeless!
From that angle,it looks like single engine F-5EII… π
