Here comes weapons bay:D
If strain yr eyes abit. You can see the weapon bay hatch…
I bet J-20 will have the same load as F-22. 2 WVRAAM plus 6 BVRAAM
Not quite! I’m not much of a China watcher, but the earliest J-20 related document in my files is from 2002.
There is often more leaking out on new projects than can be found on the Internet and in forums. Yesterday I was working on a study of the likely performance of a new strategic missile that the country in question has yet to announce or display in a parade.
Not surprisingly, Russian industry is playing down the J-20, but there are some points of interest in an 8 January Jane’s report written by a Russia-based correspondent who seems to have good access to various design bureaus there.
The Russians apparently had photos and drawings of the J-20 about six months ago and claim that the design shows a strong Russian influence.
Some Russia sources believe that the structure – at least in its current form – is currently almost entirely made from aluminium alloy, and is unlikely to contain any exotic or stealthy materials. They see full production of the definitive design as being about 10 years away.
Russia does not know what type of engine the two prototypes use. It has not officially exported any 117S engines to China, several sources told Jane’s, but they accepted that China may have acquired some. According to Russian daily Vedomosti, which is citing sources in the Russian MoD and Rosoboronexport, China wants to buy large numbers of 117S engines.
Hahaha.. Don’t you know they slip some sour wine before they wink all these rubbish?
Russia sources are full of BS and sourgrapes. If you can believe their words, Dog can fly too.
First they passes false info of 117S engine on J-20 to Janes and was reported. But now very clear, every single thing on J-20 that fly is domestic. Now they backtrack but still dare to claim China wanted to buy 117S.
Remember Russia media report abt China buying Su-33 and Su-35 few years ago. Guess until now what thing has go thru???
I highly doubt the nickname for J-20 is “Black Hawk”.
FC-1: “Xiao Long “, or “Fierce Dragon”
J-10 : “Meng Long”, or Vigorous Dragon”.
see the pattern?my bet is:
J-20 ” “XXX Long”, or “something Dragon”.….
imho they should start using Dinosaur species to name these.
Why not Dark Dragon?
That means it was copied but the Russians are okay with it :).
IMO The J 20 takes a bit from everywhere, some elemtns of the MIG 1.44, some of the F-35 and some of the F 22 Raptor. So it cannot be called a copy of any one design. You have to admit that from the top down view it looks almost identical to a MIG 1.44.
Really, I don’t think so.. Then Flanker can also be F-15. F-15 can also be Mig-25.
I also guess that all the reported hacks of the JSF program traced back to China was just for fun.

Some good stuff of J-20
First video of J-20 and from that picture, I am quite sure the engine is WS-10A. Same assessment of Andrei Chang that the engine for J-20 is domestic.

I just realise this thread has more than 160000 viewer ship.
Anyway, new photo.
Ya, that’s really one memorable moment when we saw so many ppl viewing this thread at the same time. A miracle happened on Christmas :D…
Pinko, previous record has broken. 😀
[QUOTE=Erwinhans;1680117]
Wow, Hans got it 1st
The engines?
AL-31,sure
Looks more like WS-10A. Since operational J-11B already running on WS-10A. I both see why they don’t have confident on WS-10A running on J-20. Since its twin engine, so safety shall be ok for it
There are numerous reports of cameras, and camera-phones being confiscated from people there. But they are still allowed to watch the new aircraft do its “thing” on the tarmac, taxi ways and of course the runway. It will be extremely nice when the first flight of the J-20 takes place. Maybe perhaps today – or maybe even on Christmas day itself !! What a wonderful gift for Christmas. My thanks goes out to them if they can pull it off in getting the J-20 into the air – finally !!
😉
The amatuer watcher shall go get some of these to get the J-20 pictures.
I am sure if they wanted they could have kept it secret very easily. It is just they dont care.
Yup.. That is the reason why Raptor is so expensive. 😀
I can’t speak for the public days, but there were no “swarms” when I went to see it last Monday and Wednesday. Only about half a dozen onlookers on both occasions. The two aircraft were parked sufficently far from the rest of the static display to discourage many visitors, I suspect.
But you can’t denied it maybe the real star of FIA 2010..
China’s fighters shine at int’l show
English.news.cn 2010-07-21 08:32:23BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhuanet) — Interest around two jet fighters co-produced by China and Pakistan is taking off on the first day of their international debut.
Some even say the JF-17 Thunder fighters were a major attraction of the Farnborough International Airshow, which ended here on Sunday.
“For me, they are the stars of Farnborough,” said Piotr Abraszek, aviation editor of Warsaw-based magazine Nowa Technika Wojskowa, who said he had been following reports of the JF-17 for several years. Also interested in the fighter was a Japanese air attache at the country’s embassy in London.
What interests him most about the aircraft?
“Quality and capability. And how it compares with other Asian aircraft,” he responded.
The aircraft has been in development in one form or another since 1991. After several design concepts and name changes, it emerged in its present form.
Since acquiring the first two from China in July 2007, the Pakistani Air Force is now equipped with 14 JF-17s. It has now started its own assembly line, which saw the first aircraft roll out in November 2009.
Despite the early morning hour at the air show, and the fact the planes sit in a corner of the local airport where they are one display, dozens of people have already made their way to see the “mysterious” aircraft from Asia, even when their full-glass cockpits are still covered by canvas.
The two on display here were assembled in Pakistan, said Ali Saeed, the chief of the JF-17 engineering office of the PAF, which according to previous reports has requested as many as 250 of the aircraft from China.
Powered by a Russia-built Kilmov RD-93 engine, the JF-17, according to Saeed, is presently the best plane of the PAF.
For Major Azkaar Ul-Husnain, who had also flown other fighters like the F-6 and F-16, the JF-17 is like his best friend.
He’s been flying them since early 2008, and took to the skies again to bring one to the air show.
“It is quite useful. And it’s a very important part of the PAF,” he said, noting the plane will eventually replace its present fleet of F-7s, A-5s and Mirages.
“We hope in the future 80 percent of the air force will be JF-17,” Ul-Husnain said.
It is funny people keep trying to pick on JF-17 not able to fly at Farnborough
2010 as a way to try to keep the credit away from JF-17..
Maybe JF-17 is too successful at Farnborough 2010 and the only thing they can prick at is claiming this jet is not operational yet becos it can’t make the aerial display. How childish is it? I pity them. The more they make such acts. The more desperate they try to hide their sour grapes.
Plenty of aviation news agency report on JF-17 first international appearance. Some even claim JF-17 is the star at Farnborough 2010 even it could not get the aerial display. Mass spectator swarm to get a glimpse of JF-17. Congratulation to FC-1. If it could close some deal at Farnborough
2010, it will have a perfect ending for Farnborough.
At least Russians have no issue on that::cool:
I think all the while Russian authority has no issue with Chinese side regarding military IP rights. Its the manufacturer all the while making false statement and accusation.
They can bark whatever they want. End of the day, its what the higher authority in Russian government says that count.
Just like Mig making some statement regarding stopping RD-93 to China for FC-1 as it clashes with Mig-29 sales. But all this is rebuked by the higher authority in Russia. RD-93 will still proceed as the agreement sign between both nations.
Man in my country we are building and designing aircraft, we are building from the newest Learjet 85 whole fuselage to the all series of MD helicopters fuselages, we are designing low presure turbines in partnershipt with ITP and Rolls-Royce that will be used on even the Boeing 787 and most of Airbus aircraft besides we build lots of aircraft parts for Honeywell, Hawker Beechcraft but you know what does the mexican government have as a state policy?
Well it is the protection of intelectual property of any aircraft maker in Mexico, what China did with the Su-27 is a thing to be ashame, Mexico alone in 2009 recieved more investement in its aerospace sector than China or Russia, the reason is simply we are not going to break agreements like China did.
Now we have even Chinese companies doing business in Mexico but we are going to respect their rights. It is shameful and foolish what china does, economically for us was good what China did because we have won Bombardier`s Learjet 85 plant thanks to the fact Bombardier trust us and this is even in spite China has cheaper labour, however China can not guarantee the respect of the intelectual property as Mexico is doing.
China took a Su-27 and Su-33 illegally from Russia and has paid by Russian unwilliness to trust China.
In fact Embraer is mulling to stop operations in China
see
Brazil’s Embraer admits possibility of abandoning operations in China [ 2010-05-06 ]Sao Paulo, Brazil, 6 May – The Brazilian aeronautics company Embraer will decide by August whether to maintain its factory in China or leave the country, the company’s investor relations director, Luiz Carlos Aguiar, has stated in Sao Paulo.
“We are waiting to see what happens next regarding the licences. We very much want to stay in China, but this way it’s impossible to honour contracts,” he said, adding that the company has signed contracts but cannot move forward with them without the licences.
With the import licence, the company has seven Embraer 145 models guaranteed, along with 20 Embraer 190 models.
You are quoting large number of commercial deals with military. I think you are making a huge mistakes. Commercial aircraft and military aircraft deal are different. Boeing and Airbus maintain huge manufacturing plant in China and they have no problem regarding IP right of their commercial product.
Regarding embracer , I don’t see the issue with IP rights of their product in China. They want to leave. So be it AVIC 1 can easily fill up the void.
