Mirage 4000 really !? In 2005 ?! A more accurate description of that analysis would be bedtime story…

I’d say that the person that wrote that article should probably look for (if he already isn’t) the vocation of a fiction author. This is how conspiracy theories are born..some of the stuff written stinks of sour grapes and my guess is that the author is either American or Swedish. 😀

it could well be that this author is none other than Ashley Tellis, the author of this article. The pro-American bias and the feeling of being duped is quite visible in this new article that he’s written.

One possible reason for slow upgrade of Mirage2000 is that IAF cant spare enough airframes for upgrade at any one given time due to shortage in squadron strength. Just saying….

Not likely- it is more likely the small number of airframes to be upgraded and the cost of setting up an assembly line for upgrading these. The more Mirages you want to upgrade concurrently, the more jigs, tools and the more the parts that need to be manufactured by the suppliers of Thales and Dassault. That increases the cost and already cost was the primary concern in this upgrade deal.

IAF’s grounded Mirage fleet to start flying by month end

Grounded Mirage fleet to start flying by April end- IAF Chief

NEW DELHI: After remaining grounded for over a month after two crashes in close succession, the Mirage-2000 multi-role fighters are expected to take to the skies by end-April.

Air chief marshal (ACM) N A K Browne, on the sidelines of IAF annual commanders’ conference on Tuesday, said the Mirage-2000 fleet was undergoing systematic technical checks and would resume flying operations by month-end. French original equipment manufacturers Dassault Aviation and Snecma are also part of the probes into the crashes that were caused due to some engine problems.

    BREAKING NEWS:

Brazil to consider JF-17 in its search for a next generation fighter. The Chengdu Aircraft Industries Corporation has pledged to offer a very substantial technological offsets package and license production. The proposed JF-17 variant on offer is expected to match Saab’s offer on their Gripen aircraft.

I realise that it was news you made up for April Fool’s day but even when I didn’t remember it was April 1, that news didn’t fool me for a second. It needs to be something a wee bit more realistic. 😉

Huge improvement in the IAF’s tactical airlift capabilities..they are due to receive all 10 of their C-17s by August 2014 itself. 10 C-17s in just about 15 months is a huge addition to the IAF’s transport fleet.

The Indian Air Force will have all the 10 Boeing C-17 Globemaster III airlifters by August 2014, Patrick Druez who is in charge of Business Development Global Mobility Systems Boeing Defense, Space & Security, said.

India will take delivery of the first C-17 in June 2013.”The C-17 met all Indian Air Force requirements in high altitude and hot environment where other airlifters can’t,” he said at a media briefing on the sidelines of the Defence Expo here Thursday.

Raytheon’s MCU being acquired for the Jaguar DARIN II fleet (126 of them)..will allow it to use weapons like the Paveway, JSOW, AIM-9M and Maverick..Perhaps to use the CBU-105 cluster munitions?

NEW DELHI, March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has started procuring components required to build the Munitions Control Units for 126 of the Indian Air Force’s Jaguar Darin II attack aircraft.

The MCU enables integration of modern weapons on legacy aircraft with minimal to no modifications to aircraft wiring and the flight or stores management software. The MCU’s compact size enables it to be located in a weapons pylon or avionics bay of a legacy aircraft. From there, it interfaces between “smart” weapons and the existing software of a legacy aircraft.

“Providing the IAF the capability to enhance their Jaguar fleet is the latest chapter in Raytheon’s six-decade history of trusted partnership in India,” said Harry Schulte, Raytheon Missile Systems’ vice president of Air Warfare Systems. “MCU will give the Jaguar the capability to employ ‘smart’ or ‘advanced’ weapons like the Joint Standoff Weapon, Maverick missile, Paveway™ precision-guided munition and AIM-9M Sidewinder air-to-air missile.”

Raytheon was awarded a contract to build the MCU in 2011, and funding was authorized for the system in 2012. In anticipation of the contract, Raytheon began preliminary work to integrate MCU on Jaguar in 2008.

From Ananth Krishnan’s blog- NP-1 to fly soon !

Flying soon — that’s the best and safe way to report. There are some last-minute concerns, which are being addressed now. Sources point to two actuators (may be more) which had developed snags. Then there are landing-gear battles ADA-HAL-Navy teams are currently engaged in. These are first-time developments and we need to be patient. Will it fly this week? Is it planned for March 29? Just speculations. All the best to Team NP-1.

India is selling there Bisons, i heard 😉

No they’re not. By the time they’re going to retire they won’t have any service life left in them. And I don’t get the joke that you attempted to make anyway.

In some areas it came in behind, in other areas not. When taking everything into account it did come out on top, since it won.

I suggest you read this: http://www.livemint.com/2012/02/22223353/India8217s-quest-for-the-to.html?h=B

I’ve read it. What does that article say that YOU wanted to say ?

And the Gripen NG offer didn’t come in front of the Rafale in any area from the leaked evaluation reports. Neither the Rafale nor the Typhoon.

As was revealed, Swiss evaluation referred to the old Gripen,
while Brazil evaluation refer to Gripen NG

The Swiss evaluation did account for an enhanced Gripen NG proposal and did raise the scores to account for that. It still came in behind the Rafale and the Typhoon.

The same way F-35 ranks higher than Rafale & others, i suppose,
i.e the bleeding edge avionics that technical evaluation refer to,
that may or may not have quirks

Which implies that they took the manufacturer’s word for what the performance of avionics that were still being bench tested, was going to be. There is a big difference between doing that and validating it yourself through field trials in your own environment which may be very different from what the manufacturer might have tested it in.

The real fun will be if the FAB actually tests the Gripen-Demo/NG and compares it to the Rafale F3+ and the Super Hornet Block II. I don’t believe that the Gripen NG will then be on top.
