Ah thanks. Looks like they could in fact repair the jet and put it back into service. Damage doesn’t seem to be catastrophic. Did the landing gear collapse or just not extend?
an upgrade of existing mig-29 to SMT or UPG is very reasonable.
Bangladesh doesn’t have significant maritime disputes the way SE Asian countries have, or serious border ones.
It has risk of smugglers, insurgents, etc. which demands better use of helicopters and other surveillance aircraft.
Precisely. the MiG-29SMT or MiG-29UPG upgrade would more than suffice since it is a truly multi-role aircraft and would be cost effective in many ways. And considering the issues with insurgents and border surveillance requirements, a capable helicopter fleet and a decent number of drones would be the way to go.
Hungarian AF to ground Gripen jets after second crash landing
Any pics of this second crash landing?
Was looking around to double check the Malaysian figures- the RuAF MiG-29SMTs also went from 4000 to 6000 airframe hours.
That begs the question of what is going on with the Indian UPGs? Why the disparity in airframe hours?
And 90s build MiG-29s apparently had an airframe life of up to 4000 hours….
I suspect it has to do with poor reporting. But unless one gets a report from an authoritative source, we can’t say for sure.
Question was if JF-17 will have AESA and if China can provide. If a JF-17 pilot if facing his enemy in an AESA equipped plane, he wont be sweating about who made the radar…
What if the enemy is in an AESA equipped aircraft himself? It’s not like the PAF will be the first or only recipient of AESA technology in the region. and AESA alone doesn’t guarantee anything..a PESA equipped fighter can be just as potent.
Hurts doesnt it? 😉

Why would it hurt? Pakistan doesn’t have the ability to develop one, it’s going to import it from China. What’s so special about that?
One of the Tu-95 crew died 🙁 .
May he RIP.
I recently had some problem reading Mr Aboulafia… For example when he is quoted saying:
just after the article states:
I had to unpack my calculator and type the result of the above number divided by 6: 137.8M$…
I wonder where he has been hiding during the last couple of months because I don’t know where man can found a much cheaper contract among those signed recently. 😉
Richard Aboulafia is an idiot..the man makes ridiculous remarks regularly. Wonder why they keep going to him for comments.
