It is painted in its original Republican Air Force livery. It is without codes as the codes of the machine during the Spanish Civil War are unknown. I think they had 3 of those. as soon as it is known which codes it wore, they will be applied to the machne. It is the only flying Spanish Civil War veteran in the world. BW Roger
Couldn’t find it in the Dutch archives I checked for it. BW Roger
Yes, I should have brought my camera to photograph the scene! BW Roger
To update on their Polikarpov, well it just passed Plymouth, so it is well underway. Which means Jochen that chanches are good for an October visit. By the way, looking at the pics I can only conclude that the 2 hours sensor cleaning that saturday night went well :diablo: BW Roger
No, it was removed from the hangar, don’t know where it was. Most probably moved to hangar 5, where the other DH-89 (the bomber) is. But that one was closed. BW Roger (who was there too that morning).
Thanks, last time I saw it was 23 years ago, when it was in a very bad condition, in a fading FAF livery. After visiting we drove to Evreux where two other DP’s were standing at the time. Great machine. Normally I visited the RSA when it was near Metz, but Nevers was a bit to far this year. BW Roger
Some pics of the Deux Ponts should be very nice! BW Roger
Well James, the I-16 is now halfway the Atlantic. By the way, before the end of the year something else from your side of the world will migrate to Madrid. 🙂 BW Roger
There is a new hangar added to the museum, as large as the large old hangar (where the 111ns are in now). But it is always closed when I am there. Give it a go again in October, when the FIO has its Polikarpov flying. BW Roger
That’s bad news. However, looking at the wreckage I am expecting it will be repaired. BW Roger
Found it is a full scale replica of the machine that made the first flight in Spain, on September 5th, 1909. It is known as an Olivert. Only 1 made, 1 flight and destroyed on landing. BW Roger
Well Jochen, how about sept 29 till Oct 2? BW Roger
Thanks so far, glad I am not the only one who doesn’t have a clue. I shot it last week in Madrid in the Air and Space Museum in Cuatro Vientos. I have a book with most types flown in Spain, but it isn’t in there either. BW Roger
Just saw the images on the news. It was like the 2 MiGs at fairford. One was flying horizontal, the other game from under it and hit it from the underside, followed by a huge fire. BW Roger
Well, if it don’t fly this year, it will fly next year. I have no doubt the Aviodrome will get it in the air again in due course.
