Large parts of one of the B17ns, the Lonesome Polecat, are on permanent show (in Lisserbroek) 20 minutes from where I live in Holland. On show are the nose art with name, severall engines and the pilots seat with instrumentation aswell as other parts as a gastank and that kind of things. BW Roger

Come on Cees. You know I always sign my letters with I.E.S.H. behind my name :diablo:

By the way, that’s negative thinking an Avenger in the Aviodrome or Soesterberg. It must be an Avenger in BOTH the Aviodrome and Soesterberg and a flying one at Gilze-Rijen( they all have Spitfires so what is keeping them from doing the deal) and one in front of my house (or in the garden).

But apart from the above, it realy is a shame we don’t have one here. a Killer was burned in 1975, a Hunter 3W2 was exchanched for a Fokker S11 (now these are rare in Holland in 1976 ( 🙁 😡 )

I have a whole tailhook…..can we have our ‘Baby Bea’ back please 🙂

    Dave

Fine with me Dave, but why don’t you want them all, that tailhook is at least worth 3 Spitfires, and when it is still in the original paint I include the plastic ones aswell. I am the promotor of a Spitfire free Holland (although I must admit that I might make an exception for that one that flew in that nice looking two green and yellow Luftwaffe markings during the war). So, make me president and you can all have them back. BW Roger

…so it must be true. 😀 Was there any OTHER evidence?

You have to do your homework James. The evidence was a half a page article on them by Stuart Howe, it was no advertisement. They could be bought for 10.000 usd all 3. I tried to buy one (for 3000 ) but I had to get them all 3. Apart from that no one in Holland was interested, and still isn’t, in the Avenger. Thet prefer to invest in plastic Spitfires more expensive than a TBM while as it was for me I should exchanche all Dutch Spitfires for half a TBM tailhook.

Thanks Dennis, I knew I saw it somewhere. But now the question is why these machines are not listed as survivors (anymore). I know the Dutch Navy burned a TBM in 1975 ! to practise their firebrigade, but I don’t think that all 3 Japanese ones were also scrapped/burned/who knows, but why weren’t they mentioned in 1978 anymore? Are they still “alive”?

Must be going to the Aviodome – and after what they did in 3 months when we sold em our spare beech i have no doubt that this will be a superb restoration

It is not going to the Aviodrome, it is coming to Brussels. Which means it will be restored, but it will take a long time.

Going to the Aviodrome, are you sure? Guess another museum is more in the picture for a B25. We already have 3 1/2 Mitchells in Holland so I doubt it is on any Dutch museums priority list.

There is however an ex RAF Neptune in the U.S . There is just the matter of the pond between us and it and the asking price!

Am I right that this is the ex RAF Neptune, David? Shot it in Arizona and was told it had a UK history. Also shot the other pic there. I know it is recent, but in 30 years, one things the same of it as we do looking at the “old” ones BW Roger

    Hi Jochen,

I am sure the people at BAHA can help you. They know everything about Belgian aviation (history). Do you know them? If not let me know. BW Roger

As the route is SF, Hawaii, Guam the chanches are zero. It was here (in Holland) not so long ago, in the summer of 99 I think. Based at Twenthe for the time. BW Roger

Thanks Willy, that’s a very interesting site. Always loved the Koksijde S58’s and I still must have slides somewhere of the last flight during the open door somewhere in 1984 or 1986. I am getting old. The movie is called Die Sturmflut, and is made on behalf of RTL for the German television. It won’t be out for a full year, in early 2006. the same producer however is also making a movie on the Berlin Airlift, whih means that at least some Dakota’s and Skymasters are needed. He also makes a movie on Dresden, don’t know what that will bring to germany. BW Roger

Do you know what is so strange between Belgium (and the rest of the world). When a FW190 should be obtained by a Dutchman who was to base it in Holland and flew it in full (and I mean full) Luftwaffe livery, I am sure it would result in 2 things within weeks: questions in the parlement and, I am 100% sure, it would be destroyed (by arson or on an open day or so)! Remember Lelystad, the JU52 escaped bad press only because the tail was “unpainted”. So I am glad it will be based at your side of the border where people see things in historical perspective.

We hope that the Sikorsky will attend due to it’s historic connection to Belgium and because it is so rare

Apart from that , the sound is awesome, and it is so big , heavy and slow. Do you know who in Belgium bought one of the Flugwerk FW190ties? Is it our mutual “friend” :diablo: who so seldom shows up?
