Received the tickets today Jochen. thanks! looks like the list is growing. I understand there is a ‘new” tiger moth, with G reg, now based at Seppe, Hope it is the one on the list. I remember there is/was an organisation at Ursel flying or restoring jets as the Hunter and JP. are they still there? i am especially interested in a Hunter T7 cockpit they have/had in derelict condition.

I have over a 100 helmets now, severall uniforms (LW/WH/AK & SS (M44 “erbsentarnung”)) aswell as medals and other regalia. The point is that I have now pinpoint my wishlist to German WW1 and 2, Spanish and American M-1 helmets. But on the other hand, I still lack a Belgium Adrian from WW1 and 2. Hope to get one of those at Ursel. A modern flighthelmet is also on the list, aswell as “grondvondsten”, preferably with the decals still visible. I often go to Wavre and Antwerp every beginning of the month. I heard Chiney ( or somthing named like that ) is a very good, if not the best one. If you have something to sell or exchanche, let me know.
BW Roger
I now only collect the bad guys from WW1 and 2, with a preference to the very , very , very bad organisations ( because all the thers I have). BW Roger
Thanks! BW Roger
I’ll be there 😀
I understand they lso sell a lot of militaria overthere, might be a good place to find me some “new” helmets.

You can go inside a JU-52, DC-3, IL-18, Viscount , Concorde, TU-134, IL-14 and TU-144. Half an hour down the highway there is another museum and you can go inside an AN-22, Boeing 747 (50 mtrs high up in the air you can walk over the wing, scarry but interesting), Mercure, FW614, Dakota, Noratlas, AN26 (or 24) and some smaller types . Never been to Legends, but is there a choice to include or exclude them in the shots? Or better said, I have visited severall events where “weekend” GI’s were just lying under the static aircraft so they were in every shot, just unavoidable. Just curious, as I always avoid people in my static shots. BW Roger
I have never been to “Legends”, nor did I in the past “work” a lot in the UK, so I can’t realy judge the situation at your side of the Channel. Overhere, I dare to say that 90% of the “press” I see at Dutch airshows consist of spotters who made their own press id’s in their computer. For 6 years I was the editor of a large airsport mag in Holland and had the experience that for the Lelystad airshow, some 10 years ago, 14 people accredited themselves for “my” magazine, and all 14 I did not know. And, it can be so easy. We only have here 2 official press id’s here. If you don’t have one of these, you are no press, so you have no acces. However, most organisations in the borderline don’t work like this (at the defense airshows here, or at Lelystad today, you can shake it if you have no official credentials).
And another thing, when at an airshow, and I see the equipment most of my “coleques” work with, I wonder how it is possible that they can “see” themselves as profs. What is the use of standing in a press compound shooting with a 30 years old Praktica with 50 mm while you need a 500 mm plus lens to start with, due to the distance you see the aircraft.
So, I am afraid their is a loth of truth in the complains some have. Like there are “bogus” “veterans” at many veteran events, there is many “bogus” press at airshow. Can’t help it.

The most complete of the machines, the one with the tailbooms, was restored (most probably with parts of the other fuslage pod) and is no, looking like new, standing in the basemuseum at Melsbroek AFB, at the military side of Brussels International Airport. I’ll guess the stripped remains of the other were scrapped. BW Roger
Some more pics. BW ROGER
We still have a complete B29 here in Holland. Only problem is that it is lying 30 mtrs deep 😀 . It ditched in 1947 or 48, and took 1 1/2 hours to sink, so it can’t be that damaged. Still hope (in vain so far) that at least some parts of it can be salvaged. BW Roger
Thanks, didn’t know the story of the post VE day buzz numbers. Here is another one. Looks as if the tail turret is gone. Could this be a Carpetbagger? On the other hand, doesn’t it look like an English machine with the black and green/brown camouflage paint on it, and the number under its tail, but in that case, while has it an American star than? Does it have the normal engines? The nacalles look a bit strange in my opinion. BW Roger
They are almost finished, expect it to fly very soon. It has emerged in an all silver MLD livery, with blisters. BW Roger
Thanks for this info. I had to make a choice between going to either the DO24 in Amsterdam or the anual AF Open House at Volkel Afb. So far the DO24 won, but now I’ll go to Volkel (wich prommisses to be good, unlike the expected weather). Glad I saw the DO24 in Berlin.

Here is the picture, showing the Dutch markings. Hope it will return to Holland one day. BW Roger
