I realise that Damien. I am working now on a Canon Eos 1V and a Digital Eos-1N (Kodak DCS-520). The 1D is the digital version of my 1V, and if I get a 1D, I’ll have the same camera, a digital 1V and a “normal” 1V. I have time (yet) as the 520 gives great shots up to 13 x 18 (CM) in print. For the price I pay in Holland for a 10D with the handgrip under it, I can get a 1D in New York. So making a choice is more an economic one, and as I go to the USA late this year or early next year I’ll wait.

What is keeping me from the 10D (yet) is the fact that I go from a 45 sensor AF in my 1V to “only” 7 in the 10D. But maybe these 7 are just as fast, I don’t know. Another point is the fact that the 1D has a buffer of 24 shots and the 10D one of nine. Does this mean that after shooting 9 shots in RAW not able to photograph as the writting down of the RAW’s can take from 30 seconds to almost 2 minutes (as somebody on DPreview stated)? These are the 2 biggest questions I have on the 10D. If these are non existing, I’ll guess I’ll go for the 10D (but I’ll buy it in the USA, just to bypass those much to high taxes here.

The 1Ds is the best DSLR at the moment, but the price is so terrible high that it is beyond my current choices. Hope to buy a second hand one in a few years time. I still think I’ll go for the “normal” 1D when its price drops, and I’ll buy one in NY next year April. Price of the 1D there is already 1000 P.St. less then what i have to pay in Holland. How can the same camera be 50% lower priced in the USA ? I can get a 10D there for 1250 Euro, and I pay here 2295 Euro. Can anybody explain why they are so much cheaper in the USA? Taxes or so? Well Steve, the prop was not spinning on electrical power, and as for the barriers, there are those blue boxes in the foreground that are more or less a natural barrier against people coming neaer than 50 cm from the prop:D BW Roger

No, it is no trick, the prop is moving. The museum staff were very helpfull by offering me this “indoor action shot”. The photoshoot was only a test, in a few weeks time it will be done again, with artificial smoke and some lights effects. I have included a shot from a different angle. BW Roger

I received the unconfirmed news that another Lysander wreck is underway to Belgium. It will donate its parts to bring the crashed Lysander back in the air. The remains of this “new” Lysander will then be used to make a static non flying example for the Brussels Museum. The Lodestar is still in Brussels and is stored there. There is a story that some one stole one of its propellor blades. Both stories aren’t checked by me, but the source was relieable. Anybody can confirm this ? BW Roger

The DC-2 is operated and owned by the “Aviodrome” , not the DDA. The DC-2 of the DDA is a piece of junk compared with the Aviodrome’s example. The DDA’s DC-2 is barebly good enough (with a lot of efford) for static display. It has been stored since it arrived in Holland. It is still in full RAAF (original) WW2 camouflage, and hopefully it will be seen in the (near) future in the Aviodrome museum. Imagine, they have two DC-2’s, a DC-3, a DC-4, A Connie and a Neptune there, aswell a a Fokker F2,F7,F8,F27 and a F50.

I’ll be a “Joe Public” at Coventry, going there by coach from Holland so I’ll arrive half death at the show I’ll guess. Is the DC-2 still on the Coventry list? I understood that it will be seen on severall (inter) national airshows this year. BW Roger

Well, good news and bad news. The Connie may not come to Coventry, but I Shall come instead !:D

Last thing I heard was that it had no props at all, so if it has two already, this is good news.

    Hi Philo.

I have no idea. I’ll guess it will fly this season, as the Aviodrome museum will be opened this summer, and this can’t be without their flagship in the air. I’ll go to get some info. Maybe it is wise(r) to get a cheap thicket to AMS and go to the Lelystad airshow on September 6. Allmost all the Dutch warbirds, and the Connie, will be there. BW Roger

    D10 versus D60

Thanks for the info Damien. It sure looks as if the D10 is my kind of tool. I didn’t know that the D60 was producing darker pics. The reason I was never interested in it, was due to the bad things I was always told, in connection with its autofocus. I am leaving for Barcelona (and later Madrid (it is FIO weekend again)) tomorrow. Going to have a look if I can get it for a low price there.

Anyone interested in a 15 month old Eos-3 with attatched motordrive?

I’ll think the leading gang in North Korea is laughing themselves sick by seeing the mess going on in Iraq. This is giving them a carte blanche to do anything they want as they can witness now that the ultra modern equipped USA army can be stopped by a bunch of Iraquis. Invading Iraq , a relatively military poor equipped country (no Iraqui airforce has been operational) is one thing, now making a military fist against a North Korean army of severall millions is something else
