That aircraft is now flying in the USA. It is converted into a TBM3U COD Avenger, with a large stretched canopy, and the complete underside of the fuselage has been recreated, with bomb bay doors and all. So, the last TBM-3W2 in the world was historicly destroyed while being restored to flying condition. A big shame in my opinion, although the current operator has nothing to do with it. It looks as if the first owner in the USA has thrown away all the radar equipment. BW Roger

RE: Any good aviation sites in Spain?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-01-03 AT 07:52 AM (GMT)]On aviation, there isn’t much around in the Barcelona aerea. Forget about Tablada, apart from the fact that there is nothing anymore, it is a 1000 km from Barcelona. However, in a way you are lucky. On Sunday February 16, the first airshow/display of the Parc Aeronautic de Catalunya , Spain’s second largest historcal aircraft group, will be held. Place to be is Sabadell Airfield, which is very close near Barcelona. Best option to go there is by train (unless you have a car, but it is very difficult to find)and then take a short walk to the field. Be there at around 10.30 (when it starts) and at around 13.30 everything is over. They have some nice aircraft there. BW Roger

Looks like it is PH registrated (can’t read the reg in the picture, anyone can ?), so it must be an aircraft of Demin. Just heard that in South America somewhere, a Fokker F28 was also involved in an incident/accident. No fatalities mentioned. BW Roger

I don’t mind which colours it is painted in, as long as it is a different one as the current one. Sorry, that “Memphis Belle” outfit is disturbing me for years now, boring, boring, boring ! The colours I should like to see, but that never will be applied as they aren’t USAAF, is that of a Coastel Command B-17 , or that of a B-17 in some kind of lancaster colours, with a big radome under it (I have a Corgi B17 in that livery). It should be a big advantage if they should park the aircraft on the flightline with the nose towards the runway. Now you are shooting right into the sun, creating lots of highlights and super dark places under the wings (of the taildraggers) and, with the high noses, you can only get 3/4 frontal shots without much detail of the colours and codes. Or even a better idea, why not organising a photo shoot afterwards, The sun is right, I shouldn’t care if I had to pay 10 times as much, as long as I could get perfect shots. Another thing that bothers me ( on almost all airshows), is why most of the flying is at maximum speed. Why not include at least one flypast at lower speed, and one wing up, so the photographers can get a decent shot? BW Roger

I can not give the confirmation on the airshow availability of the Aviodrome Connie, as only the museum can. I personally think that the Aviodrome will do anything in their power to perform their flagship in the air. It will help them if some usable hydrolic or electric props can be traced. So,if somebody find some blades, even if it is only one, contact them! BW Roger

PS I am expecting a Super Connie in the circuit for 2003

“fewer Spitfires” ,that should be nice! I know most of you won’t agree, but imagine all the other types that could be seen if, lets say, 25 % of all the Spitfires were “used” as trade ins for other types. Wasn’t a Spitfire “swapped” for the B24 at Duxford? BW Roger

I understood that the 190ties were banned in the UK, and a 262, well maybe in 2004 when the German’s got one. Bw Roger

    RE: Digital photography question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-01-03 AT 08:14 PM (GMT)]Thanks for the answers already. I have no idea what FlyPast used on the Connie ( I’ll be happy if I get my copy in 2 weeks time as postal servive between the UK and Holland are horrible) I’ll guess it is the photo in the paintshop with the question if somebody has info on 4 pairs of props and an engine. I think the Connie will soon be followed by other historic aircraft, making their way to Holland.

About the digital camera, almost all the profs are going for the Eos 1D and 1Ds know, which means that the Kodak DCS 520s and Canon D2000’s are traded in, and are sold for a fraction of the price. I got mine, together with all gear and 3 extra sets of battery packs for around 700 P. Sterling. That’s why I bought it. I have no money for the 1D(s). And Damien, aren’t cd roms writers still very expensive?

    thanks. BW Roger

    [updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-12-02 AT 09:58 AM (GMT)]Oke David,
If you mail me your emailadress I’ll sent some info on the Spanish Dc’s. Can take some time as I must contact my Spanish sources for this, and this isn’t the right time. Pleae mail the adress to soupart@hotmail.com

Another question, I noticed your Fokker S-11 shot in FlyPast, why isn’t the nose and tail painted orange? Like this the Dutch Navy never flew them. Best Wishes, Roger

    RE: Connie’s in Europe

That’s the fate of most propliners. E.g. in Geneve they are using a still complete DC-7C for (non destructive (yet)) fire training, in Spain, two flyable DC-7C’s are for sale, nobody is interested. It is a shame that no Carvair was ever preserved, and why isn’t there a Bristol Freighter “in safe hands”. It isn’t too late yet, but in 5 years it is. It is just that nobody cares. For the price of a Spitfire hulk, beautifull other aircraft can be obtained, but it looks as if they prefer the hulks over the props! BW Roger
