RE: Connie’s in Europe
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-12-02 AT 10:46 PM (GMT)]David, all that is left of the Lanzarote Connie is in my room and in the Aviodome. I was there in 1984, and it was just scrapped. However, the entire field was littered with its remains. I “found” instruments, part of the rudders, some complete windows, a lot of id and construction plates, and a lot more. I all collected it and brought it with me to Holland. Some parts are on display in the Aviodome for their Connie exhibition. I’ll have them back next week I think as they close on Jan 6. The Connie at Malta was also broken up, but the tail and engines survive at Tal Quali. The Faro Connie was burned and scrapped. There is a complete Connie cockpit on display at Lisbon airport (in the terminal), and another cockpit from a HI registrated Connie is preserved in the Swiss. Photo: Seen shortly before it was scrapped, the remains of 48-608. It donated many parts to other “still flying” Connies. BW Roger

RE: Connie’s in Europe
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-12-02 AT 08:34 PM (GMT)]Hello David,
Looks like only one is in real danger.
Germany, two Super Connies are preserved at Munchen and Hermeskeil. Safe for the moment, but they are kept outdoors.
Holland: One Connie safe for the future, to be kept indoors in the future, but as a “flyer” there is always some risk.
France: The Paris Connie is being converted into an Air France machine at the moment, the Super Connie at Nantes is being overhauled and also relatively safe, only the Super Connie at Quimper ” Disco le Moulin” might be in danger and I doubt if it survives another decade.
England: Wroughton Connie, safe for the future.

RE: Flypast versus Aeroplanemonthly
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-12-02 AT 07:18 AM (GMT)]When I compare the two mags, for me FlyPast is the winner. I started with Aeroplane Monthly a long time ago (in 1974 after I had my first lessons of English at school ( I am from Holland)) , but stopped my subscription the moment Flypast arrived. For me FlyPast is the best historic mag, while Aircraft illustrated is the best allround mag (IMHO), both I am subscribed to. BW Roger
PS Isn’t this one a better item for the FlyPast forum than for General Discussions ??

RE: Schumi joined the Third Reich?
The man on the photo is a member of the Wehrmacht and indeed a Bergjager. This is clearly as he is wearing the Heeres-Bergfuhrerabzeichen ( in the form of a Edelweiss) on his left uniform pocket

RE: A question on filmscanners
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-12-02 AT 05:51 PM (GMT)]Thanks for the info Mark and Damien. Yes, I am a (weekend) pro, but so far I never had to go digital yet. This year I have spent a small fortune on lenses (EF 300 mm F2.8 and EF 100-400) and a scanner is now outside my financial view a bit as I also have to buy a new computer and printer then. That Primefilm example was offered me for around 40 P. St., so that’s why I asked. For a time I was looking for either a Canon or Nikon 4000 dpi scanner, but since a friend on my has bought a Minolta Dual Scan Elite II, I have to include that one in the list too. What I need is this: a filmscanner that can give me an A-3 print at 260 dpi in non glossy magazines. For glossy, larger than A-4, I doubt if one of these scanners is usable (but I can be wrong). I hardly print photo’s, but I want to buy a photoprinter that can go also to A3 (Canon 9000 ?). The Primefilm was just for fun on the net, but as it is not real that good, I’ll just wait untill I can buy one of the above scanners. It strucks me that there are a lot of members of the forum who have an interest in photography. Thanks for the advise so far. Best wishes, Roger
