RE: Pic of the evening
It is claimed to be the sole survivor, I think that other miles falcon’s just look almost the same, but I am not a “Miles” specialist. BW Roger
RE: Pic of the evening
No, it is not digital. Shot on Kodak Elitechrome 100 iso slide film. The film I have been using for 6 years now.
RE: Is it a he or a she?
Its neither he or she for me, just “it”. I call them by the names e.g. Dc-4, Dc-7, Mustang and that’s how it works for me.
RE: Brussels museum pic
It is a Mosquito with a non standard nose as used by the BAF.

RE: Which Spitfire is this?
My videocamera (Sony DCR PC110E) can also be used as a digital photo camera. Only 1.1 mil pixels, but the lens is a 10 times zoom Carl Zeiss. Translated to 35 “language”, I shot the tail photo with something like 450mm. The question remains however, did I shoot an aircraft or just a model???????? BW Roger
RE: Which Spitfire is this?
Maybe this close up shot gives a clue. According to the museum staff the aircraft was “real” and the V-1 was a replica. I don’t know what it is. Looking at the detail shot it looks convincing enough for me. Real or fake, I don’t know (yet).

RE: Piccies
The South African DC-3 on the first photo, is not the Dutch DC-3 at the second photo. What they did was putting the fuselage of the PH-PBA and fitted it to the wings and tail unit of the South African example, while the fuselage of the South African example was fitted to the wings and tail of the PH-PBA, which is in the Aviodome in AMS.
RE: Dumb things you did as a kid.
In an attempt to imitate Batman, I jumped as a 8 years old (in full Batman outfitt), from the 6 mtr high roof of the holidayhome in Spain. I landed right between the rocks and plants in the garden with a huge headwound that had to be stitched.

RE: P-59 Airacomet
The fact that they are bringing back to the air the sole surviving dual seater is a disturbing thought to me. I have no doubt that , given the unrelieable character of the first generation jets, it will crash (one day) and than another “last one” is gone. In my opinion, flying with sole survivors should be forbidden. I think it is also insane that the former Chino ME-262 will be put back in the air. It can never fly with its original engines, so it must be modified, and then it is not an original airframe anymore. Instead of destroying an original piece it is much wiser and safer to buy and operate one of the “new” ones.
RE: Whirlwind Question !
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-10-02 AT 10:38 PM (GMT)]Hi David,
I remember a Whirlwind standing in a field with some other aircraft (mostly junk)just outside the boundery fence of Schonefeld airport. When I was there in May this year, all aircraft were gone, and the field was cleared of everything. Don’t know where it is now. They also had a manacing Yak 28 there, one of the Eastern types still hardly seen in the west. Hope the aircraft weren’t scrapped. I’ll check it out.

RE: RE%3A A photographic question
Ooops, you have blown my cover!!!! I wasn’t at Manching because I had “to work” ( “unfortunatly” I had to shoot the Connie while enroute to Holland), but otherwise I should have come to Manching because of the FW. Somebody mailed me the photo, orign unknown. Heard there was a historic airshow planned in South Germany around 18th May, hope it will be seen there although I don’t know where the show (100 years aviation in Germany) is yet. Isn’t there a N2501 at Manching?

RE: A photographic question
Thanks,
The lens was offered to me for 1000 Euro, something like 620 p.Sterling, which I think was good value as new,a price as high as 2200 Euro, is asked for it. I have a boring job at day, so to compensate this I work for several mags and a Spanish press group as photographer during weekends and holidays, so I am used to expensive gear. As I made more than I could imagine with the N749NL story, I thought this was an offer to good te resist, especially as I damaged my left arm badly some time ago ( and thanks to the glorious health care in Holland I’ll have to wait five months for an operation) I thought the image stabaliser would be a help for me as I can hardly handle my normal gear at the moment. Maybe after my arm is “working” again, I’ll sell it off, let me know if anybody is interested.
