D-CALM (Do 228-101) now doing tests over the North East UK towards Leeds. On SBS FL175. Callsign “Science 01”, just called Newcastle 124.37. Towards Leeds then Cranfield.
Andy
Looks like the BA testflight tonight is BAW9156 G-CIVC.
Just on the ground at LHR now (17:41) squawking 2000.
Supposedly taking off LHR and flying for 2.5 hours at 30,000ft then landing at CWL to the maintenance tecchies to check the engines etc.

Andy
Saw some of their flights a few days ago going out with the callsign “BMR”, so they’ve changed that too..
Andy
Would it be N872SJ DC8-71F ?. Got it on SBS at 00:20 to 00:35 (7/2/10). Also caught it up here in the North East at 19:21 on 08/01/10 as MUA801, 06:13 01/01/10 as MUA872 and 05:48 on Xmas day as MUA872
HTH,
Andy
Just for info really (as i don’t think it’s mentioned anywhere), but the plane was N820NW. Had it on my SBS between 0934 and 0953.

I’d hazard a guess that it’s G-BOAA. I have a very similar photo, again at the hold to RW07, a/c parked in the same position, and that was G-BOAA around 1983 i believe ?
Cannot for the life of me find the photo but it was VERY similar to that one, i have the link to the same Concorde on the same day, but on approach. I will have to hunt out the one similar to yours though !! http://www.andy15star.fotopic.net/p51757291.html

And did you realise that it takes an extra 3 days to paint it in those colours than regular colours ??? – think i read that on airliners.net or something !
Andy
I thought i read somewhere that it was painted in “Dreamliner” colours because it was Ryanair’s x’th 738 delivered or something like that ??. But on further research it was Ryanair’s 60th 738…. nothing special about the 60th is there !.
I remember seeing an Orion Airways 737-200 (G-BHVI) which was Boeing’s 737th 737, no special paint job there though !

No problem!….Happy to help!. Another thing to consider is a good aerial (outside preferably!)….mine is in the loft because it’s too difficult to get up on the apex of the house as it’s quite tall, but i’ve used Westflex 103 coax cable and it really makes a difference to using standard RG58U cable….the better quality the cable, the better the signal should be!

Yeah i’ve got the Maycom and they not really a serious scanner!. Well good luck and happy scanning !
Andy 🙂
Hi, in my opinion, no !. I used to own an R532 and it was brilliant !. I keep looking for these on ebay as that’s about the only place you can get them these days. I can remember pulling in stations far away with one of these and when it broke (about 15 years ago), i got the Realistic PRO2004, which still pulled in a lot, but i don’t think it was as sensitive as the R532 (but that could be psychological !!).
I currently have the BCT15 (Uniden) and i would say it’s a really sensitive scanner and doesn’t suffer from interference from other stations (like some of my Realistics did!).
The BCT15 is quite a difficult thing to get hold of as i think it’s main market is in the USA/Canada. I got mine brand new off ebay. But i think some of the other BCT’s are very similar (UBC785XLT for example at around £250 on ebay, brand new): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bearcat-UBC785XLT-desktop-scanner-very-latest-batch_W0QQitemZ400069111306QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ConsumerElectronics_SpecialistRadioEquipment_SM?hash=item5d25fa2e0a&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
BUT……some of the Unidens are hard to figure out/program. I use software called “BC Tool” which is free, to program it and it works brill in this way. You get the PC cable with the scanner anyway.
The easiest ones to program (by far!) are the Realistic ones and i would say if you’re not looking for advanced features (station names, ID tags, Close Call etc etc) then go for a Realistic PRO2006, one of the more sensitive scanners i’ve owned. They are in abundance on ebay for around the £50 mark !
Let us know how you get on !

Andy
Hi, i have the Uniden UBC9000XLT and love it!. It’s quite sensitive and pulls in everything my Realistic Pro 2006 does (and that’s another sensitive radio which you can pick up (pardon the pun!) on ebay for around £40 – £60).
I also have a Uniden BCT15 which is really sensitive, but hard to find in the UK.
As for hand-held, the Realistic Pro26 was always a great scanner, as was my Signal R532 and R537 !. As you can see i’ve had a fair few scanners !
Might be worth having a quick look at: http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/widerxvr/chartw.html
And: http://www.eham.net/reviews/products/25
At least you can get an idea of what various scanners do and then search for them in Google (or ebay…..i’ve bought many scanners from ebay without any issues)
Hope this helps a bit.

Andy
No problem !
Yeah, easyJet (along with many others) alter their radio callsign so it bears no resemblance whatsoever to the timetabled flight numbers !. But i would say without doubt that it was G-EZDD, that one did the EDI-BFS-EDI-BFS that day, so it has to be that one – infact that log uses GMT i’m pretty sure, so your suggested 7am ties up perfectly !. All the other EZY flights into EDI that day looked nothing like DO, OD etc !

Andy
