Flight number could be a little difficult…I’ve forgot :p

However, it was Sunday 26th October, PUJ – NCL, around 3.30pm take off…if my memory serves me right!

Another thing I noticed was that the gear door closest to the nose wasnt flush with the body when closed – is that common? (you can see in first pic, the plane looks like its smiling)

    edit! trawled my email:

    Leaving: Thomsonfly TOM2591
    Depart: Newcastle19/10/08 09:20
to Arrive: Punta Cana 19/10/08 13:10

    Returning: Thomsonfly TOM2592
    Depart: Punta Cana 26/10/08 15:55
    to Arrive: Newcastle 27/10/08 04:05

Definitely TOM2591 and it was definitely G-OBYI, i’ve just trawled the SBS log for that day !

    Departed 09:22 TOM2591 G-OBYI Boeing 767-304 c/n29138 Thomsonfly Ltd

    Sure looks like G-OBYI to me ! (can only be G-OBYD, E, F, G, H, I or J)

Can u give us the dates and flight number, i should be able to find it from that.

Just had another look, it is indeed G-OBYI, notice on your picture the nose cone, darker blue, then to lighter blue (to the TUI sticker), then to mid blue (rest of fuselage), and how roof panel (above front door is lighter blue)…… Then check http://www.airliners.net/photo/Thomsonfly-(Britannia-Airways)/Boeing-767-304-ER/1423753&tbl=&photo_nr=4&sok=&sort=&prev_id=1424515&next_id=1410361

If that’s not conclusive proof then i don’t know what is !

How many Thomson aircraft operate from Newcastle? I flew on a 767 (and possibly a 757 on the way back…) when I went to the Dominican Republic last October. On the way back the IFE system kept crashing and the reading lights were on and off like a disco. How old are they?

By the way, what does “gone tech” mean?? In need of repair?

Hi Chris, at the moment they usually have around 2 or 3. G-CDZL (B737-800) seems to be based here at the moment, as does G-BYAD (B757-200), sometimes G-BYAS. G-OBYD (B767-300ER) does some of the longer haul flights and it’s about 12 years old. (check out http://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Thomsonfly.htm)

I think G-DBLA is their oldest B767 in regular service, it was delivered to EVA Air in 1992 making it about 16 years old now.

I also flew on a TOM (Britannia) B767-200 from Newcastle to Newcastle in November 1985, did a trip from NCL overflying EDI, GLA, PIK and back to NCL. G-BKPW (now dead!).

“Gone tech” simply means there has been something gone wrong with the aircraft which stops it from flying, usually something technical. Ranging from something quite minor to something major. They usually ship parts up to get it fixed and can take hours (in the case of “AD” yesterday), or many days (as in the case of C-GOAF excel B738 at the end of last summer).

    Hope this helps !

haha!, well at least Thomson have pulled a plane off-line for them, if it had been a few other airlines (no names mentioned :() they might have been stranded a little while longer !

Hi Ian, hope u still with us!, G-BYAD has gone tech & G-BYAS is positioning in from Gatwick as TOM35A (planned ETA 19.03) to operate the delayed flight.

Credit to David Jeffrey on the NEAM site for the info !

(PS as of 18:51 G-BYAS is 28000ft about 30 East of Birmingham Airport, on its way into NCL)

Hi Ian, i’ve posted on there just now so i’ll get back to you on this message board as soon as someone can shed some light on the matter! – just looking at the logs for today it doesn’t seem as if they have sent a replacement in just yet!

    Best Regards,

Not sure of the reason Ian, but it looks like it’s G-BYAD (B752), came in last night as TOM61A (19:50 hrs), hasn’t departed since then, which leads me to believe it’s BYAD. G-CDZL has also been in and out of NCL today, but that has since took off.

Have u tried posting on NEAP yahoo site ? – if you’re not a member then i could post up there for you, usually gets replies within an hour or so.

I did a week at Newcastle ATC (Radar, Apron Control and Tower), driving up the runway at 80mph in a land rover birdvan was the highlight !, one of the best weeks i’ve had !. Very interesting indeed !. It was all done through school though, i didn’t write any letters etc.

Good for Ryanair !! – i’m sick to the back teeth of people getting sacked for doing something not exactly criminal, once the press get hold of a story !. So what if she’s a porn star when she’s not being a stewardess !, have the press really got nothing better to report ??. There have got to be thousands of other women like that who also have other jobs……quite frankly, who cares !

Credit to Ryanair for backing her !

I wonder where i can get either a book or CDROM that has the planes regi’s on ( if there is a CDROM verson can it be updated online) Currently i live in NZ

Hi Mudhouse, although not really what you wanted, you could try the wiki link at:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_registration (bottom of page)

That site has links to all major countries registrations.
