Not a supporter or a critic of TIGHAR but having been compared to them the armchair comments are interesting,
Nachtjagd I think you are referring to “Glenn Miller’s last flight” C4. Alan Ross was the researcher and the diving was carried out by Wight diver Martin Woodward.
I wish you the very best of luck and every success. I know what it is like to stick your neck out and have a go so just get out there and do it, succeed or fail you will have done more than most.
Yup the mod attitude finishes it for me so get the drums out have a fanfare do whatever sad folks do I am away. For those with an interest you know where we are.
Over and out

Ooh no no no the insults started way back when we were compared with another group that rightly or wrongly has been assessed by some forum users as crooked. Not quite sure what a random shipwreck is? I think it is a piece of history and a time capsule to boot. I am also unsure how you know what we have found regarding the story, not the aircraft, the story. My observations earlier were not meant to insult but seemed a fair assessment, forums contain wonderful knowledgable folks and those that seek to just be a pain in the ****, this forum is no different than any other and long may it continue. There is also the silent majority that watch and say nothing which they are perfectly entitled to do. Why anyone thinks they have the right to demand information as we get it I have no idea, we have to be patient this is a long and somewhat expensive process.
Haha this is priceless really quite entertaining now, what a shame folks are so aggressive behind the keyboard, however anyone with a real interest knows were to go, can’t say more than that.
Best to all

Yup you missed it and it still ongoing http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/16324201.unexpected-find-hunt-for-missing-plane-uncovers-channel-shipwreck/
I don’t get a lot of time to check out this thread and it all seems pretty much of a plane crash in itself… Still forums are forums everyone is entitled to their opinion, absolute respect for that. However whilst reading through it is all a bit depressing and I do know there are some here that are genuinely interested in what is going on. As has been mentioned we have a duty to the folks that have backed our fuel expenses and they will get news ahead of everyone else which is only fair, that said it will ALL be coming out in the public domain very slowly because that is the way of the job, progress is slow. For those interested you can keep up with developments on the Deeper Dorset website particularly the news section, latest is here https://www.deeperdorset.co.uk/as-long-as-it-takes/ Finally this is not just about finding out where the aircraft is it is about finding out the truth that so many think they already know and one thing I can say for sure, they don’t. Despite all the criticism we have taken on here the forum is still very informative and has on occasion been very helpful, there are some very knowledgable folks here as well as the usual keyboard warriors and armchair experts.
Best to all which ever you are.

Tonight we find out if we can hold it with The Donald and Little Rocket Man… Should be a further update on this story PM radio 4 this evening somewhere between 17.00 and 18.00 unless we get ditched for the willy wavers.
Rescheduled from yesterday to today R4 PM and another twist to the tale…
This came ashore a week or so back at Camber jetty and from the picture I was sent I thought B17
It’s on its way Adrian and to James I say this. I have one or two other bits and pieces that I would also be happy to give away so perhaps if you would like to message me I could get them to you? Then you could scan them, you obviously know where to put them and think it worth doing so by all means fill yer boots. I have enough difficulty getting folks interested in what I do (maritime history) and wouldn’t know where to start with something that specialist.
The Bluebird project is an inspiration to many, the fact that Bill is a bit off the wall matters not he has vision and drive and must be completely bonkers. That is the kind of person it very often takes to undertake a project like this, power to your elbow I say rant as much as you like Bill you and your team are incredible.
In answer to Propstrike we don’t think the odds are that long or we wouldn’t attempt it, that said it is a tough job. Who said we were looking for bullet holes we didn’t? We don’t know what lies on the seabed nor what it might tell us we can only wait and see what we find. As for amateur divers not knowing what they are looking at firstly the divers around me know more than you might think but camera’s, video, photogrammetry tell the story on the surface where we can show them to the folks that know more than we do. Until we find the site we are not even sure we will be able to use divers however we have an ROV.
As for conceding anything what I actually said was we will probably never understand his thinking, there are a lot of things however we can understand as we progress. We never said it was a scandal again we are only dealing with the facts and any physical evidence. Do not worry if you think you might sound discouraging we have had much worse from the armchair experts. Why would the other targets be more fruitful how could anyone possibly know that?
The famous Norseman is a good example for us and makes the Hercules sound easy in comparison which it isn’t. What remains of the Norseman will be an engine, possibly a few other bits such as parts of the undercarriage and almost certainly a trawler will have pulled up the engine after dragging it a few miles then chucked it back over the side. Is it impossible to find? No it isn’t however what you would require is a sensible sized search area which no one as yet as far as I can see is very sure of. The issue with the Hercules is that it is surrounded by rumour and fifty years of whispers, I repeat we are not saying it was a conspiracy or a cover up, suffice to say it was a mark 1 cockup that the aircraft was allowed to leave the ground in the first place. The Meyer family want to know where the aircraft is and would like to know or at least have some idea of what actually happened, and their request for information falls on deaf ears even after fifty years.
At this time we have no physical evidence, when we have physical evidence we may be able to learn more or may be not, however leaving it lost in the channel will get us nowhere. That is me done we thought the aviation community might be interested and it doesn’t appear that way but let’s see what happens when we find it.

The undercarriage in the picture was recovered to Alderney after being spotted by a local boat. The air in the tyres kept this section afloat, we have no evidence so far that the wreck was ever located on the seabed. Other surface wreckage was spotted including a liferaft and various loose fittings, we believe some were picked up after being spotted by helicopter the vessel involved was probably HMS Thakenham.
