Theres a company that will take you telephone number off the lists used by call centres free of charge.
I “think” it is called TPS (sorry no link),i done it about 3 months ago and i have not had one sales call!
Wonder what aircrash stuck in his memory for the 80s and led to the confusion.
Regards
Ross
It may have been a case of me misunderstanding him!
The chap i met has lived in “the wilbrahams” for all his life, and as a child spent many an hour watching lysanders,P-47,and P-51 etc.. operating out of Bottisham.
He had some great stories to tell about cycling to aircraft crashes during the war, telling me in great detail the what, where, and whens, involving Spitfire,lysander,wellington,P-51,P-47,sterling,Blenheim IV,a unknown german type, and a V-2.
….while i have some of your attention.
I`m currently cross checking what he had said about a blenheim coming to earth, and the only thing i have come up with is V6383 a MK IV which was abandoned in the general vicinity of Bottisham on 11th Feb 1942,were there any other Blenheim losses in the Wilbraham`s and Bottisham area?
Just trying to put an aircraft ident to the site, and hopfully give the gentleman some further info when i hopefully meet him again tomorrow.
Many Regards,
Ben
It went down between the villages of Six Mile Bottom and Little Wilbraham,Cambridgeshire.
He also told me the crew ejected.
The only reference to a canberra near to “Six Mile” that i have found is a:
B2 Canberra from RAF Watton that went down across the old A11 during 1955.
4 miles and 30 years out?
So maybe this is the one he is recalling?
Bruce ****inson of Iron Maiden flys airliners, I think for Monarch but I might be wrong. He also has a Piper Aztec.
Neal
If i recall correctly the drummer from maiden,Mr N.Mcbrain currently has a PPL.
Thanks for all the information!
Ben.
Thanks for that the chap did say it was from a canberra which came down during the 1980`s.
I took his info with a pinch of salt as he had told me that the aircraft came down during the 1980`s and, only 5 miles away from where i live, and yet,i and every local person i have spoken to do not remmber this accident!?!?
many regards,
Ben
Yes in deed, good luck with this venture!
How about past aircraft recoveries, the Loch Ness Wellington has not been shown for a very long while or the sad demise of the Greenland B-29.
An hour tour of some aircraft museums?
…how about a deal with DD Video for past airshows?…you know the ones…the ones they can longer shift…in the bargain bin for 3.99. :p
Yes we have had various Duxford & biggin shows on “wings” but how about some past Mildenhall`s,Waddington`s etc…
Just a few ideas of what i`d like to see! 😉
Regards,
Ben
Thanks for that but it apears that they have sold the airfield plan side of things to a company called red lion posters.
As of yet no web site for them up and running.
Looks like i`ll try Hendon.
Thanks steve!
“F-19”
Some interesting threads!
Just out of interest, does anybody remember the (Revell) F-19 model kit, and “flight sim”?
Those were about prior to info on the F-117 being made public, when speculation on stealth aircraft was high.
Where did these ideas on the shape etc..for the “F-19” come from?
18 years ago it seemed too far fetched, but now i`m wondering if their is some truth in it?
I`d loved to have a meet up with all you folks, but alas i`m away at “brize” over that weekend. 🙁
regards.
Russian ekranoplan,ugly aircraft/ship?
I`d pick a russian ekranoplan like the “lun” from 1987 with all its rocket pods etc..
Although not a true aircraft(W.I.G.=wing in ground effect),i feel it has more in common with a aircraft than a ship, and it is damm UGLY!
Sorry i have no pictures to hand!
Ben.
yep same aircraft
It left around cambridge midday`ish.
Right wing was still in yellow primer.
Some good atc chatter between tower and the vc-10.
Aircrew joking about the “unfinished wing”,atc replying:”that`ill teach you to bring it here!”
Sorry about the poor picture wrong place wrong time!
Regards,ben
RIP? Air Fete?
I`m deeply missing the air fete at the end of may.
My first introduction to the world of aviation was at the age of 8 months, with a low level lightning at the then RAF Waterbeach during a display.
I have since been to every single air fete apart from one(although i may not remember them due to my younger years).
I am surprised at the no knowledge of how to/or lack of funds to put on a airfete as i was and always been lead to beleve this was a NATO function, and not a USAFE afair.
It was always billled as NATO`s top display/airshow,in the last 10 years!
Surley there is somebody in NATO that can arrange a display to show us general public(the people in europe and the rest of the world that pay for all this hardware)what we are paying for?
Security?….the show went ahead after the raids on libya did it not??
The only year i did not attend due to my personal concerns of security, was the year of the libyian raids!
On a lighter note my best memory was of the 3 hinds with pink smoke and mig-29`s of airfete 1996,i never thought i`d see such aircraft!
Nice pics phil ! makes me feel young again!
Regards,
B.
Thanks!
Thank you for that andy! 😉
Regards,
Ben.
Great pictures robert.
Seems to be a lack of pictures of these aircraft for all to see,
so i`m glad you`ve shared your photos!

Ben.
