For the past few years, I’m pretty sure that MAN has been in the 45-50 bracket of worldwide airports in terms of pax.
I would imagine typical movement rates in peak periods are between 55 and 60 per hour, slowing to around 30 in single runway ops.
R2 was designed to allow just slightly over 60 movements per hour, from memory.
oh wrte thought it could of been
but thats not far really is it
About 2,100 miles
Hopefully will be a better set up than the hybrid charter/low cost short lived Viva Air of the early 1990s
Viva wasn’t intentionally a charter/loco hybrid – I think the problem with Viva was that Iberia didn’t seem to know what to do with it. It was originally set up in the late 1980s as a joint venture with Lufthansa to operate charter flights to Spain. However, in the early 1990s Lufthansa sold its shareholding to Iberia and Iberia changed Viva’s focus to a scheduled carrier flying from European cities to leisure destinations in Spain (e.g. Malaga, Palma de Mallorca), where Iberia’s and Aviaco’s international scheduled network was smaller. From memory, it was positioned as a scheduled leisure carrier, not a low cost airline. In the mid-1990s, Iberia began to restructure Viva and Aviaco, and Viva went back to being a leisure carrier before it was finally liquidated.
Anyone remember Caledonians Tristars. If people went on them share your memories. Im sure it was G-BBAE i went on to and from Tenerife in 1999, the middle luggage rack was removed, the plane was very tatty, however seats were quite comfertable and the sounds of the engine was brilliant. Remember the big humming on engine start sitting at the rear.
Yes, I went on -AE too (MAN-FAO) in 1996. Jay cloths in the panelling above passenger’s heads were visible!! Also miss Airworld, not a big airline (summer-only to begin, I think) but the crew were incredibly friendly. It became part of Flying Colours (also good) then JMC then Thomas Cook.
Wardair and Nationair (if we’re on a Canadian theme), BCal / Caledonian, Orion, Oasis, Hispania… …I could easily go on here!
Belfast is to BHD, isn’t it? It’s been advertised for some time now.
Is TP scheduled to receive A346’s?
I don’t think they are. The only aircraft they are due to receive are a few more A330s and a couple A340s. However, in a few years, they will be the recipient of a few A350s, depending on what happens in Toulouse with the design of the latter.
It is too bad that they aren’t receiving the A346, I think this aircraft would look great in TAP’s colours!
To me the 346 is too long to look good in any colour scheme! LH’s 346 being a prime example.
Re memorable colour schemes, I have always liked Olympic.
Apart from the Dc-10’s, tristars and MD-11’s, are there any Boeing 747sp’s around? I flew on one on Air Mauritius, but they are now retired, do Syrian air still operate two of them?
Think Saudi Arabian still do, though I think its the royal flight.
What happened to the A310s???
The 310 image is still on their website!
I see mate after a bit of research on Airliners.net the only ones operating in the UK have really just been running a charter for other airlines. No Airlines run a regular service with them. The DC-10 on the other hand theres now a DC-10 running into MAN once a week and a few other places.
FlyWho are supposed to be leasing an L1011-500, so they could be returning to our skies if the venture finally takes off. Other than that, TriJets has some updated news on TriStars.
Is that scheduled or charter?
Both 4 x weekly so scheduled I think
From memory it is now just one large building, which is divided into five different “terminals” (A, B, C, D, E). Some airlines seem to use the same “terminals” (e.g. EZY use A, FCA use B a lot). I think most stands now have airbridges.
Have Varig scrapped any aircraft or routes because of this financial difficulty?
According to the BBC, some a/c are out of service and flights cancelled: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4902792.stm
