Great photos. Do Excel regularly visit SCQ or was this a one-off?
There’s been various planes in Royal Mail schemes over the years. I think there may still be a HS 748 “doing the rounds” ? Emerald’s I think ?
I vividly remember those from a few years ago. F27s stick in my mind as well – can’t remember the operator.
It’s a nice livery but I think it’s missing some titles.
I think it is a general “problem” and not just BA.
Hmmm…. I checked bmi’s website. A single LHR-MAN ticket for the dates I wish to travel was approx £38 incl taxes (a return was approx £54). As a comparison, BA is almost £170 single (or approx £64 return).
Surely in this age of terrorism and tight profit margins, flying aircraft with paid for but unoccupied seats doesn’t make much commercial sense.
My god that aircraft will be well untilised, just about its only downtime of more than an hour is Sunday night!
I guess they’d choose to rotate aircraft fairly frequently (e.g. weekly) with lesser used 757s from MAN, LTN, LGW etc if it did use that particular schedule, otherwise it could get nightmarish in the middle of summer.
easyJet adds extra capacity to its 737s
Bristols is 6598 feet, according to the website Ive found, LBAs is 7381 feet! That cant be right surely…
Yes, BRS has a short runway
This isn’t the first time flaws at Manchester have been exposed. Ok, so undercover journalism impedes most honest folk, but I don’t think we can trust everyone in the world today.
Why dont they try their 738s? Why dont they try Manston or Jersey? Cmon Continental get real, the USA is your domain. Why you flying to ickle British cities?
Because a Transatlantic flight from EWR is only a couple of hours longer than a coast-to-coast flight, yet the revenue per mile is much greater and there’s no competition from locos (as yet  ). Plus they use EWR as a hub for onward connections.
Top charter, for anyone who had the pleasure of flying them, was Airworld (mid/late 90s). They had excellent levels of service and their cabin crew were first rate. They also had an all Airbus fleet 😀
Monarch, Air 2000/First Choice, Air Europa, Caledonian, Flying Colours/JMC/TCX and Airtours/MyTravel are/were also good.
Agree with Ren – you should quote the source if it’s not your own. If you hover your mouse pointer over the link, you should see the webite that it links to. From that, you should be able to decide if its safe to click or not.
I have some lovely VC-10 pics from 1968 and wonder where I should post them, if I ever do.
here please, i’d love to see them 🙂
Apparently the other choice was the Lesley Garrett International Airport.
1. Will the service be popular since it is being operated in an all-economy configuration? Not everyone can make do with the leg room on what will a flight lasting in excess of 6 hours.
Definitely. It’s a well known fact that regional airports such as MAN and BHX have trouble getting the mainstream international carriers to fly there because they can’t attract a sufficient amount of business class traffic. Emirates do so well because they have a good economy class product.
I flew with Britannia once (single, not return), in their mid-90s golden era. It was the biggest disappointment and worst flight of my life. The quality of in-flight service was terrible. I’m glad I’ve never had to fly them again. Thankfully, the return flight was on Air Europa.
