Lovely shot, if the code is NS it would be a 201 squadron boat

Yes, quite late in 45, he arrived in theatre two days before VJ day!

Many a true word spoken in jest. The cutting is part of a small archive recently purchased to a 148 Squadron dispatcher-operating in N Africa and then Italy. (He is front left). From other photos his crew occupy more or less the front two rows. Unfortunately the cutting isn’t captioned. Thanks for the pointers.

Thanks Geoff, the accident card has Ellis, RCM MacMillan and 1 other (now identified as the unfortunate joy riding SAC). Thanks for these details they are very helpful as I had no forenames for Macmillan and nothing at all for the third casualty.

    More on Plonky

I was very interested to see so many images of Plonky, mainly because I am lucky enough to own the medals of F/Lt Charles G.G. Prior, RNZAF. F/Lt Prior was flying Plonky on its final mission to Vunapope on 5 June ’44. The aircraft was hit by flack and spun into the ground kiling all three crew. Interestingly the crash site was still being reported up to 1983. I can recommend Fred Ladd’s biography ‘A Shower of spray and we’re away’ both as a good read as as a good source of stories about his time flying Plonky.
