Don’t know about cost effectiveness but the Phantom fits the bill. Fighter, bomber, ground attack, recce.

Didn’t Israeli Skyhawks shoot down a couple of aircraft during the Yom Kippur war in 1973? That would make them fit the multi-role capacity. 🙂

    Hi Mike,

That’s the problem with the other hangers. ‘You can’t see the wood for the trees’.

    Hi,

There have been loads of aircraft relics on sale at ebay lately. A lot of them claiming to be genuine BoB aircraft parts.

Wouldn’t know one part of a P40 engine from another, so how would someone know it’s actually from a P40?

Not sure if I approve of this kind of selling. Is it small groups selling bits and pieces to raise some neady cash or individuals raiding crash sites for profit?

Must have been about 1977-ish. My mates dad took four of us to RAF Leuchars At Home Day. He flew as a rear gunner in Lancs during WWII and being kids we always wanted to listen to his war stories. Not sure how much was true and hiow much was ‘made up’ for us kids.

I can vaguely remember the Lightinings coming in over the runway. By the time the commemtator said ‘If you look to your right……….’ they had been and gone.

The Vulcan roaring down the runway pulling up and doing a steep right hand bank. Usually during these airshows the Russians would send a Bear over the North Sea and we would see the QRA Phantoms scramble after it. It happened every year. Once they had taken off the show would resume.

You don’t get airshows like that anymore.

[QUOTE=Paul F]Perhaps the plural for three Su25 Frogfoots should be a Frogyard?

    Hi,

I have an old copy of Wingspan about the Gladiator, for obvious reasons and I think one on the Mosquito.

Just had a look at that well know auction site and they have four on offer at the moment.

Some very nice photos of a very historic aircraft. There can’t be many veterns of WWII in their original, genuine colours.

I have always thought China would be a good place to look for wrecks.

    Ok, I’ll go with Furies.

So if Mosquito is Mosquitoes, does that mean Tornado is Tornadoes?
    What other names cause confusion?

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input. I know the usual format for plurals etc, but as it is an aircraft name I wasn’t sure. I’ve seen newspaper reports refering to Furys so I wasn’t sure if there were ‘rules’ or exceptions for names.

I agree that Mosquitoes does look a bit weird.

    Hi Damien,

Thanks for the link. A very interesting site indeed.

There’s ropes attached to it but there doesn’t seem to be anything holding the rear end down. Unless they have put weights in the rear fuselage.

Sounds great. Do you know when they plan to fly the Glad? Will the CR42 be flyable as well?

Can you imagine these two dogfighting over Duxford?

    Some from Duxford.

The Glad has its engine fitted but there doesn’t seem to be much work going on at the moment.

Anyone know if this has been put on hold?

    Alex
