Hi,
That’s a pity. It would have been nice to see a restored Hector, but as I don’t know how much of the airframe was recovered, at least it’s being used for something.
Hi,
Photos of Israeli Beaufighters are extremely rare. I certainly haven’t seen that one before.

Hi,
I watched the trailer and while it follows the story to a certain degree I don’t really like watching remakes, so I probably won’t watch the film.
The Pheonix in this film is a C-119, don’t know if it’s a ‘real’ plane or a PC generated one.

Hi Paul,
Thanks.
I’m not sure about the number being 788 or 789. On the last number there is no middle part of the 8 or 9. Could it be 780 or 790?
The attached photos are of K5760 and K5762 taken while Apollo was on a Carribean cruise 1937-38.

Hi,
Thanks Paul.
Sorry benyboy, I placed my bid 5 hours before the end. The bid I placed was what it went for.
I’ll send you a high res scan if you want. 🙂
Do you have any similar photos?
Alex
Hi,
Not sure about the first two but 3 RAAF Sqn operated in North Africa and a number of SAAF sqns did likewise, not sure on sqn numbers. The FAA also operated ground squadrons in North Africa. I’m sure there must also have been RCAF Squadrons there are well.
Rhodesia had a unit in East Africa which became 237 Sqn.

Hi,
This is a very interesting subject, although trying to find info on them is very difficult.
There were also reports of Stirlings going to Spain and Czechoslovakia as well, but I think that was a ruse to get them to Egypt.
Hi,
Here’s a photo of the rear loading door and on of the nose section. Apparently you could get a ton of cargo in the nose. Bit of a tight fit if you ask me.

Hi Phil,,
I picked up a copy of this book last year. It’s a very good read, but I won’t spoil, it for you.

Hi,
Here’s one of the crashed ‘OO-XAC’. I wonder if there are any parts of this stored away somewhere in China?

Hi Tony,
Thanks. This is about as much as I’ve been able to find out about these aircraft parts, very secretive.
Alex
Hi James,
It’s part of a larger article I’m working on about the use of the Stirling, Halifax and Lancaster in Egyptian Air Force service.
I’m also interested in the Halifax in the post war air forces of France and Pakistan.
So if anyone has access to info and piccies…….. 🙂
Alex
Hi,
I seem to recall reading somewhere that a couple of German bombers were snagged by this contraption. Don’t remember if they were brought down however.
Alex
Hi,
Thanks for the info. I’ve sent an email to the Solway Aviation Museum asking for some further details.
Alex
Hi Snapper,
Thanks for the link.
I finally figured it out about 5 mins ago. I had to change part of the script to tell the main page to look in the CD and not the hard drive.
I know is probably the long way to do things but now it works the rest is plane sailing as they say.
