Hi,
Just an update after finding some more info.
XG457 suffered an Avpin explosion on 5th Dec 1964 at Seletar. There are a number of photos showing this Belvedere on fire and the attempts made to put it out. The front was totally destroyed but the rear was used as a source of spares until scrapped.
A new entry is XG458. It was badly damaged in a flying accident on 26/06/64 and returned to the UK for repairs. Shipped out to the Far East in May 1967. Allocated to 66 Sqn in October 1967.
Looking for crew details for this accident.
Regards,
Alex
Hi,
Thanks for all your replies. As far as I know the Chipmunk was recovered by a Belvedere so it may have been repaired and put back into service.
Alex
Hi Jim,
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you had a great time as a 16 year old.
Alex
Hi Jim,.
Thanks for the photos and info on the Valettas. I’m getting a clearer picture of the JMCU now.
In your log you have a flight in VW858 C.1 as a target aircraft over North Sea and an AI Exercise over North Sea for 2 1/2 hrs in WG263/L T.4. Where these both with the JMCU? And of so do you have the dates?
Alex
Thanks again for your input.
I’m wondering if the JMTU used any Valetta T.4 that was available. 228 OCU ORB may be a useful item to look at.
Alex
Hi,
Thanks for your replies.
John,
If I find out any more about the AI 17, I’ll let you know.
WB981,
I may order up the movement cards for these aircraft and see if it has anything further on them, although I suspect they will on have what’s in the AB serials book.
I’ll keep digging.
Alex
Thanks Viscount, much appreciated.

Hi,
From 65 Sqn’s ORB, 6/9/37-8/9/37;
The Squadron Co-operated with Merrs Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer with formation flying and fighter tactics for the film, ‘Shadow of the Wing’.
Any ideas on the film?
Alex
Hi,
Well I’ve series linked it so I won’t miss any other parts.
It was great to see the C-46 in the air. There can’t be many of them left that are airworthy. When they showed a general view of the DC-6 on the ramp I’m sure I saw two others in the background.
Alex
Hi guys,
Thanks for the additional info, much appreciated.
Alex
Hi,
Thanks for your replies.

Peter was hit by shrapnel during a dive bombing attack on the ship that was evacuating 263 Squadron back to the UK in April 1940.
He was killed in a flying accident on 5th January 1945, while serving with 165 Squadron and based in the UK. Although I have a note stating he was with 20 MU. 165 squadron was re-equipping from Spitfires to Mustangs. I have info that states he may have been trying to fly under a bridge at the time of his death. Peter is buried in Bath.
At some point during his service in the Middle East he was shot down in the Med. Possibly when he was with 73 Squadron.
Do you have any further info on Peter?
Just did a quick search on Google for ‘fly off l ereminsky’ and got 5 hits. One article shows a photo of him.

Alex
Hi,
Excellent photos, many thanks for sharing with us.
I always like Gladiator photos. The Glads partial serial is either K78?? or K79??. A number of Glads were shipped to Air Depot Aboukir for 80 Squadron. So this could be one of them.
Of interest is the gun camera above the lower starboard wing machine gun.
Any more Glad photos?
Alex
Hi Paul,
I have May/Bagge as being lost on 26 Aug 1938 when their Hardy, K4317 failed to return from a sortie. The aircraft was found burnt out near Attil.
