    Hi Cees,

From what I understand the Armed Forces Museum, Oslo is not part of Gardermoen. I believe Gardermoen is the name for the airport/air base. I’m sure some of out Norwegian collegues will correct me on that.

I’ve made a couple of enquiries into this. So much Gladiators or parts of Gladiators have been recovered from Norway it’s very difficult trying to keep track of them all.

    Hi,

My aircraft ID is not too great but they look like French Potez 25TOE to me. During the invasion of Syria in June 1940 Potex 25TOEs were based at Rayak, Damascus-Mezze, Allepo-Nerab, Palmyra and Deir ez Zor.

I don’t know of any Potez 25TOEs being surrendered at Habbaniya so your Grandad may have took part in the Syrian campaign.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Mark V,

By new identity I meant paint scheme. Whose aircraft does she represent?

    Hi,

Anyone know her new identity? I took the following photos at RAF Leuchars, oh must be about 10 years ago. Is this the same Hurri? It’s the only one I know that was black.

    Hi,

Sorry I don’t know about its present state. I do remember going to one of the Strathallen airshows and seeing the Lanc having all four engines fired up. It was quite a sound and sight to see.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the additional info. Pat, a PM is on its way.

The attached scan is from the [B]Canada Aviation Museum[B]. It shows an Arabic number 2 on the fin. The fuselage insignia is a squadron badge. Although the upper wing stripes look the one colour they were supposed to be black (inner) /red/green.

The various markings date the picture as post-war.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the link. I did a search on the Canada Aviation Museum site and came up with what I think are some original Afghan Hind photos.

If you serach the image bank for Hawker Hind you get 18-19 pages of photos. The first page shows these original Afghan Hinds.

    Hi Dave,

Very intrigued about the Audax losses. I’v had a quick look through my files but can’t come up with anything. 46 Sqn formed in September 1936 at Kenley and operated Gauntlets then Hurricanes. No mention of Audaxes.

However I do have details on five Demons of 64 Squadron being lost in fog during night excersises on 7 August 1938. One of the Demons K8187 undershot while landing at Digby and was declared a write of. The crews of the other four all baled out when they ran out of fuel.

    K8185 abandoned near Leicester.
    K8199 abandoned near Debden.
    K8200 abandoned near Wittering.
    K8201 abandoned near Duxford.

Don’t know if it helps, but you never know.

Has anyone got a Sea Glad?

    I don’t know of one.

    Miggers

Malta has a Sea Gladiator, one of the famous trio. Apparently its getting a complete set of wings at some point in the future.

Anyone know the true identity of Yeoviltons Sea Glad? Is it N5518 that was lost on Lake Lesjaskog in April 1940?

    Hi Guys,

Attached is the photo of two Egyptian Stirlings. They both have traces of their Belgian civil registrations. The one on the left is OO-XAD and the other one looks like OO-XAL.

The original photo has three Stirling overflying a crowd at low altitude. The other Stirling has traces of a fuselage code and camouflage, possibly the remains of its RAF origin.

This photo has a GSO extension and I can’t get it to open with my current picture manipulator thingy. I can’t remember what I used previously as I have had this photo for at least 3-4 years now.

    Copyright Dr David Nicolle.

    Hi,

I have one shot of a formation of 3 or 4 Stirlings during a flyby in Egypt. It was sent to me by Dr David Nicolle for an article I am prepapring on Egyptian Lancasters, Halifaxes and Stirlings.

If I remember correctly 1 or 2 of the Stirlings still show signs of their previous owners civil registration.

I’ll see if I can dig out the photo over the next couple of days.
