I can fully understand what you are saying and I fully agree that when a law has been passed, following the legislation is not an option. In this case it may be a sensible one.
My problem is not with the specifc legislation we are dealing with here it is the fact that Health and Safety legislation is becoming so presciptive nowadays that is it becoming an active discouragement and hinderance to get even the simplest of tasks done without reams of unnecessary paperwork (I now have to read and sign a risk assessment to enable me to sit on the Service desk and answer the phone). If it is dangerous then you cant do it.
There appears to be no room for common sense nowadays. And by that I dont mean allowing loop holes to ignore the legislation just because its been done like that for years.
The freedom of the individual is paramount
Yep, the freedom of the individual to kill themselves in a slow and painful way and leave there dependents reliant on the state is (in this case) entirely paramount. I dont agree with the concept of a nanny state but neither do I think the Freedom of the individual is more important than self preservation. If H&S legislation stops me from killing myself then that is a good thing even if my Freedom has been impacted upon.
