Not open minded about TCD anymore.
We are supposed to be in sunny Florida now. But we’re not
Let me start at the beginning…….
Get to the airport no probs.
Priority booking for SP – forget it. Family of noonoos in front of us complete with babies in buggies & wheelchairs – no prob with that BUT they obviously were not in SF, SP or SU, but everyone was using the priority lane (as instructed). What then cheesed me off was that they then opened 4 more desks, so economy were getting checked in before us.
Being me, I waited patiently – for 20min! then I asked a rep what was happening. She went to the front of the Q only to get involved with the family with the prob. I saw my chance when the economy check-in next to ours was free. so jumped in there.
OK fine. Got thru the fast lane at security. Things looking up. Then I was the one chosen to be frisked (some people would pay a fortune, I know, but not tall dark & handsome & definitely not male )& have my bag searched. No prob with that either.
Got on plane. Delighted with seats. 2 adults/2 kids sat 2 & 2 in front of each other – great.
Plane wonderful. Leg room amazing. Kids got a kiddie pack, we all got an amenity pack – thank goodness!!!!!!!!! Pkenty of orange juice, & water provided – excellent. Cabin crew were very friendly – again excellent.
We taxied down the runway half an hour late. We start to accelerate. Crowds waving to us from behind the perimeter fence. Then BUMP. DH assures me it was only the start of the runway, but we then brake to a halt. Pilot obviously jammed the brakes on. I thought at first it was coz a shadow of a plane landing flew over us. No.
Back to the terminal building for us. Technical fault, we are told.
Ok, so we sit there for a while, then they tell us we’ll have to get off while the engineers have a look. OK – no probs. Safety is obviously paramount.
We were very well looked after. Kept informed. We knew we would get food vouchers after 4 hrs – not so a lot of other people who must have spent a fortune on Burger King. We got £6 each (vouchers) – great.
We knew we were onto a loser then, when they announced that people with baby buggies could come & collect them.
7pm by this time. Very British attitude by passengers – no one getting knickers in a twist & kids very well behaved. We then get told we are being sent to hotels for the night & will hopefully be departing at 9am today, but to watch notice board in lobby of hotel.
We got sent to the Radisson – very nice. NOT. We’re given 2 rooms next to each other – but the smell of smoke was unbearable. Back to the reception to be told that the only 2 non-smoking rooms were on different floors. DH in 1 with 1 kid, me in the other with DD. OK – no probs. Honest (haven’t been in same bed as DH for 10 nights due to working extra shifts for this hol).
Room only just cleaned but not very well. Basic amenities not stocked up. Biscuit packets x2 had been opened & half eaten by previous occupants!!!!!!
Did I mention our suitcases are still on the plane. Same knickers on today, I’m afraid. Luckily amenity pack (from SP) had a toothbrush.
We were well fed in the hotel at 9pm. Told wakeup call at 5.15am & breakfast @ 6.
Gets to lobby this morning after having to prise the kids out of bed at 5.15, only to get to the lobby to find plans changed & not a rep in sight (of course).
Now wake up call is at 8 – nice of them to let us know. They must have known this at 10pm last night. At least my kids are 12 & 14 so no big deal, but imagine the poor families with disabled kids & babies, having to get them up at that time in the morning only to be told breakfast is now @ 9. OK we were provided with pastries & tea but….
DH went over to the airport to find a rep (just back & its now 7.15hrs) – no reps in sight & the only departure to Sanford on the board is todays 1.30pm flight.
So we still don’t know what is going on. NO INFORMATION AT ALL.
Will we get to Orlando today????????????????
Your guess is as good as mine. You probably know more than we do at the hotel.
I don’t think I would book with TCD again. I know all planes have technical faults BUT the older the plane the more likely it is that it will have technical difficulties. I am also assuming (correct me if I’m wrong) that other airlines/companies are more likely to have a back up plane. TCD don’t seem to know what to do with us at the mo. And if they do, they are certainly not telling us……
Its almost 7.30am and there are still no reps in sight. I bet I am still posting on here from the Radisson at same time tomorrow
