Now, That is what I call a museum, great displays with a thought for how to display the items in diorama.
Tahnk you for the pics Flood
If you look hard in this picture you can see a poster of a Lancaster, I brought this around 1972 at Biggin Hill, you cant see but on the bottom of the poster it read.
” The Pathfinders are coming to ITV this Autumn “
will look up a better one if i can.
I remember the series well and the actors at the time had some dispute in having their hair cut short and if you get a chance to see any footage you can see for yourself.
PA474 was used for some flying and crew shots with large scale model’s being used I think which were around 12′ wingspan.
I am sure if we got to see it now it would look atrocious.
If I could just add a few points here, With having experience of running a museum albeit a small one I do know the problems involved with the balancing act of Restoration, display, funding and the BIGGEST problem is the members.
We are lucky at our museum the base membership of six which is Roger, Ron, Dave, Darren, Ken and myself. Ken is our newest member who has a long life in the Aviation world and is very keen on certain projects which have been in store for a number of years, Dave has been with us 15 years, Darren since he was born and Ron Roger and myself since 1973.
What I am getting at is we have had a lot of people want to join or have joined with all the enthusiasm in the world and some the universe ! but when it comes down to it you end up with problems i.e.,
1 can I take that bit home to restore it ? OK sure no probs,, ( bits and the member never seen again )
2 I am going to restore that, spends a couple of days stripping down bits spread out all over the place ( member never to be seen again and your left with a job you did not need at that time )
I know how much dedication it takes with all this and it looks easy and new members bring along massive enthusiasm which fades very quickly because in this world at the moment everything has to be finished before its started, Just look at the comments on TFCs Beaufighter, I am not slating these people I am sure that they have the best intentions including the help offered to the Lasham guys but I am sure they have had the same problems and members can give you more problems than the museum its self.
I hope the Lasham boys get sorted and do not have to sell anything.
Good luck
Colin.
I will post pictures of the memorial service to the memory of Wng Cmnd Grant as soon as I can after the 28th.
