I think the merits or otherwise of being offered and accepting an OBE have been dealt with in another thread. Intelligence doesn’t come into it.

Agreed…..but I wasn’t actually suggesting an OBE was a sign of intelligence.

My (slightly tongue-in-cheek) suggestion was that Ross had ‘…studied Modern European History at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University of London; and he was made a Fellow of UCL (into which SSEES was absorbed) in 2006’ (according to Wikipedia). I took ‘studied’ to mean that he didn’t graduate.

Even so it is sort of ‘evidence’ of intelligence, and to play devil’s advocate for a minute…

…what evidence does anybody have that Ross isn’t intelligent? 🙂

BBC is getting very disappointing….it is supposed to have a mandate to provide quality, advert free, non-biased viewing that other channels do not necessarily produce. They seem beset on producing the same guff (reality, cooking, soapy bollox) that the others do and do so many adverts too! And are overly wrapped up in ratings….it would be nice if they produced unique viewing imho!

Ross was by far the best of the current chat-show hosts, IMHO of course.

Blimey! I didn’t know he was so unpopular…..who do you lot actually like as a chat-show host?

…maybe now we can have a “talk show” with a presenter who has the stones to ask a real question like “So, did you write the book/play/film script to tell an important story etc” rather than “I love your book/play/film its brilliant”…

With regard to asking real questions I believe that most ‘A-list’ celebrities insist on full editorial-control of all chat-shows, magazine interviews and photo-shoots these days…

…so the only things the celebrities get asked is what they are prepared to answer.

I’ll miss his Friday night chat-show and Film 2009; I wasn’t quite so keen on his Radio 2 show but I’ve heard a lot worse.

Personally I don’t think Islam4UK has anything like that level of support. Are they being so provocative so that the march is banned and they can then claim that their ‘thousands’ of supporters are being oppressed and that the UK doesn’t actually believe in free-speech?

I say call their bluff and let them march. The problem is that some misguided group of people will turn-up to protest the protest, and the police will have to step-in, and then the whole thing will make the headlines that Islam4UK so desperately want (and have already got).

The media are already making comparisons to the ‘Luton Protest’ as if it was something remarkable; does anybody remember the scene? If it was remarkable, it was remarkable for two things, how few protesters there were (less than 20 when Luton alone has a Muslim population of over 20,000) and how much fuss the media made about it.
