This seems to be an oportune time to ask about the Tallboy and Grandslam on the HP Victor, is it true the Victor could carry these weapons?

The Victor could certainly lift 35 x 1000lb bombs so weight shouldn’t have been a problem.

(Wouldn’t I have loved to have seen that lot dropped on a Black Buck operation!)

And it was designed to carry the early nuclear Blue Danube which was about 5 feet in diameter by about 24 feet long.

How does that compare to Grand Slam?

Shortstown near Cardington, Bedfordshire is named after Short Brothers.

I think they built it originally to house their workforce that built the R101 at the Royal Airship Works Cardington.

There are Blenheim, Whitley, Wellington, Stirling, Halifax, Lancaster, Lincoln, Sunderland, Brabazon, Comet, Hunter, Canberra and Victor roads (later additions obviously).

Also roads are named after people such as de Havilland Avenue, Brabazon Close and most poignantly roads named after some of those killed when the R101 crashed.

Cronifers scrapped the ex-Stafford ones fairly quickly.

Shame that they were all scrapped so quickly as they would have made ideal ‘manageable’ preservation projects for the beginner.

Was there any reason for their rapid destruction?

Was somebody perhaps concerned at their ‘missile’ qualities?

Well with 97% of the population of Argentina being of European origin I’ll be happy to give the Falklands back to Argentina when the Argentine European population gives Argentina back to the indigenous population of South America.
