Anyone? – Who owns the Lasham Aircraft. I would be happy to ‘preserve’ The AOP9
Which private individual owns those AC?
Which one is old crow? 😉
(ooooh)
standards my friends, standards….
edisposals have got a few Sea Harriers FRSA2s. No need to spares strip those, and Everett Aero relived them of a Jaguar airframe he’s now peddling. I might be tempted with a Sea Harrier – Im holding out for xx199 the Hawk I flew whilst at Brawdy.
Dirty Smudge
Ive found a dirty smudge in Poland that looks the right size and shape to be a decomposing aircraft. could be WW2 – or could be ‘swamp gas’ (Ala X files) who knows. Its in a non-farmed area by a forest
I remember a new report when desert storm was on and the reporter
was covering stealths taxying to take off for a mission.
I remember a ‘stealth’ taxied past in the background and I though ‘what the heck is that’ as it certainly wasnt an F117 which was very new at the time.
This thing went past in the background and it was black, stealthy and very much like the JSF. though it was still different enough to not be the JSF.
Whatever it was they must have been taking advantage of the battle environment for testing.
Never seen it or anything like it since.
Aurora over the Pheonix club
Well – someone I know well saw the Aurora over Farnworth a few years ago.
No it wasnt after a night at the Pheonix club!
Just looked up at the stars and spotted a black triangle fly from horizon to horizon avg height – very fast with a red? light on each tip point
I think it rotated as it flew across – and was silent.
or maybe it was ‘swamp gas’?
Overriding flight systems.
Why not make like the Gnat and pull a fuse.
I can see it now, perhaps hit ctrl alt del and have the pilot turn of the ABS or whatever keeps these things in the air
;o)
My first post. I had to sign up.
Thanks to all for posting the scrapyard memories.
Its heartbreaking to see all those airframes being mashed up. All gone now.
I loved all the scrapyard trecking of former years, i think its the thrill of hidden treasure. almost as amazing as seeing the colour pictures of the allies overrunning the abandoned Axis aircrafts at the end of the war (especially that shot of that huge dump filled with Fw190 and 109s and bits)
I love military aviation and love WW2 aircraft, your posts triggered a memory
and I could have kicked myself. My uncle owned scrap alloy yards in manchester and bury. He was the only chap in the area to have the aluminium smelting tower at the time (50s on) and I bet he must have seen his way through quite a lot of aircraft material.
Ive never asked him, but he must have contacts in the area – first thing this weekend im going to ask him about the failsworth yard, the mad woman – her dogs and as much as I can about who might still have what – if anyone does, he might know.
In his last yard he only ever kept cars that he thought were too rare to scrap.
Everyone else had piles of metros and allegros and he kept all the classic cars and rarities. It was useless for anyone looking for cheap parts as all his cars were classics and not of the era.
I cant believe I didnt think of it until now im sure he still has his contacts. Im hoping he can point me in the right direction of a Griffon or two – perhaps a Typhoon/Tempest at the back of his yard?. ;o)
(kick).
Having said that – he did manage to scrap (not) a 30’s Bentley 4-1/2L that some old bloke brought to his yard as it was a bit past its MOT. He kept that one himself.
