More information of where the pictures were taken and the circumstances might throw some light on the type of aircraft although a Meteor nose wheel seems to fit the bill.
Was this taken from a ‘dig; a scrap yard or ploughed up locally ?
It doesnt appear to be particularly old. No signs of wear and tear. It seems like the tips have been sawn off as the brass sheath would normally cover the tips as well. The numbers on the boss dont mean anything , nothing relating to an engine or horsepower. I would agree its possibly off a more modern machine, microlight or ultralight. There are no multiple laminations you would expect from a vintage aircraft. It might be worth while searching for current propeller manufacturers in the UK for a better opinion. Ken Fern for instance
If Labour win the next election are they not going to scrap the idea anyway ? At least thats what Sir Keith Starmer said, obviously he is after the votes with the local and not so local population and with an election supposedly later this year it makes you wonder whether this is all delaying tactics. The way Rishi and Co are performing that might well be the case
I think the aeroplane in the picture is a Morane Saulner Monoplane, the number on the tail is a ‘3’. Looking at the high trees in the background they could be Weelsby Woods which would put the aircraft more or less where the sports field is now..Hamel did fly a Morane Saulner during this time and the rather outlandish propeller is shown in another photograph of a Morane but I have never seen that particular one on a Bleriot.
Hope this helps?
There is also a Red Arrows hawk at Wickenby, no serial visible on the photo I have seen but I was told this was the Scampton Gate Guardian. Did they have two, or is this a fibreglass replica, it certainly looks real on the photo
Nope
You obviously dont read Flypast, Three Lightnings at the last count. Javelin and if its still there a Vampire T11
I hope to get up to Binbrook next week, there is a Javelin there, If I can get access it will be easier to compare rather than rely on a photo but comparing both photos it certainly looks to be the best contender
Also looks like the nose wheel of a Javelin as this photo shows and a Javelin did crash into the sea off Skegness, not that far way
Supermarine Swift going by the chart supplied by radarsdeck
Apologies the tyre size is 29 x 8.00-15
Looking at the general condition it looks like it hasnt had much use so I would go for a post war aircraft. I wonder if this is a left over stock from a cancelled order and has been in store. The plexiglass doesnt look that ancient either
The seller is from the Kidderminster area if that offers any clues
I think I have figured it out
I have always been of the opinion that it is post war but the person who gave it to me was adamant it was from a Beaufort. I have no idea why he thought that though. I do a photo but have no idea how to post it
I found a complete 303 Ammunition belt with around 30 live rounds in the bottom of a ditch at the former RAF North Killingholme. Before tht in the early 1970s a Mosquito fin and rudder were found propped up behind what was left of the Control tower, No idea what happened to that but plod took the ammo away
I Gather the idea is to exhume the dogs remains and place them in the care of 617 Sqdn at Marham. If it comes to that its possibly the best outcome but why should we be giving up or relocate our our heritage to avoid upsetting the minority. You cannot change history good and bad and why should we. I don’t see any American being upset by the word ‘Yank’ or us Brits as ‘Limeys’ or the French ‘Frog’, even the Russian ‘Ruskies’ So why are we so concerned about an obsolete word associated with the Black community, a lot of them are proud of the word. Leave the grave where i is, if the story behind it isnt relayed to them they will never be the wiser. Anyway at the moment its all academic, we are waiting for that all important decision from the High court
