OK Thanks
Are these located in the UK? I have been looking for similar to form the basis of a memorial
Auster 5 G-AJVT 1958 from Cleethorpes beach, the pilot buzzed the young ladies sunbathing in the sand dunes …happy days !! Dozens of others since then….. flights that is !
Its still owned by the MOD so I doubt you will get in unless you have a pass. Probably a civilian security company installed by now
I would guess looking at the colour this is more to do with the Navy rather then aviation ? I think the word ‘Periscope’ is a giveaway
Sorry Blackburn Firebrand, its the age you know
I have what I am told is a Fairy Firebrand prop blade going for sale
One of the other airfields the Home Office has targeted is an ex USAF base, I cannot remember which one though, in their case the local council was notified well in advance which makes you wonder why this isnt the case with WLDC. Maybe the outcry was anticipated leading to a ‘back door’ approach.
We seem to have gone off track from my initial comments. The Vulcan has to be stripped down and moved out by road, of that there is no doubt. Scampton is not that far from Doncaster, well at least not hundreds of miles away and from a logistics and cost point of view the nearer to her former home the better. From the engineering point of view those people involved with the Vulcan who I assume are mostly from the South Yorkshire area wont have to relocate to some other remote airfield, traveling times and costs for them must be a big consideration. Scampton is an ex Vulcan base and I am sure WLDC would welcome this massive visitor attraction, if I were them I would be knocking on the door for the Vulcan and if I were involved with the Vulcan team I would be knocking on Scampton’s door if they haven’t already done so. Surely for both parties it has to be a win win situation. As far as the Home Office is concerned they always want to throw a spanner in the works but they don’t always get their own way. And the NIMBY’S they will always be with us.
Hmm
Obviously when an RAF Station closes the main gate sign must go somewhere, surely not on the scrapheap. I think an approach to the RAF Museum might be more productive ?
Fingers crossed it goes to the best possible and appropriate site
Binbrook certainly has changed and not for the better, take a road trip there and you will see what I mean !
Ouch indeed, thats why it was a Goblin !
In short, spanners at the ready!
Cannot find any association/group dedicated to its history, sorry!
