Just checked my photographs and I have one of the Bloodhounds on a trailer and no room for another, so as you say probably two different locations. On reflection I think they arrived on separate days but not absolutely sure. I know at the time it was a ‘big secret’ where they had originated from.At that time it was assumed they had come from either Duxford or Cosford but later enquiries to both locations drew a blank. It wasn’t general knowledge that they had been in MOD auctions.

Forgot to say the Meteor NF14 came to North Coates as well, with a broken canopy

    Ok
One Bloodhound at the gate but two arrived together at North Coates from North Luffenham, maybe one was elsewhere on the airfield. Both bought at auction at I am told a ridiculous price. Both were later transfered to Sandtoft when the group who owned them relocated for want of a better word

Its not the Range Rovers, its the occupants you worry about, if confronted just ask them ” is it worth it for the basic minimum wage” They soon clear off

    Bloodhound missile survivors

Faldingworth does a have a couple of Bloodhound, one was evident on Google earth a few years ago. Its on the part of the airfield operated by Faldingworth defence Ltd and now possibly underground in one of the very large deep storage bunkers. It was very evident in the background on local TV when the villagers were complaining about the underground explosions there a few years ago.
If you go On Google Earth now you will not find it but there is a tail less Lynx helicopter in its place

Thanks chaps, I presume the Thunderbirds went back to the scrap yard on completion of the TV series?. I can confirm that North Luffenham is devoid of any recognisable Bloodhounds. There must be others out there though.

The Sandtoft Bloodhounds were Mk 2s and came to Sandtoft from North Coates and were previously at North luffenham as gate guardians and are now believed to be at faldingworth, the one at Misson is a Mk 1 and has been there for about 25 years

Further to this I have now discovered a number of glider landings, all civilian, two in July 1950 and one in May 1964, all participating in the National Glider Championships. The 1964 arrival was during the Bloodhound occupation just what the RAF made of this intrusion is open to speculation

Thanks anyway, I am aware of a Piper Tri pacer landing who’s pilot became lost but that was decade before, that was during the period when it was on Care and Maintenance

There is no start date or end date with this original enquiry. It is doubtful that civilian aircraft would have been using North Coates during RAF occupation given the nature of the place (Bloodhound missiles) Having said that a small number of microlights were given permission to use one of the hangars in 1991 prior to it closing the following year, by that time most of the Bloodhounds had departed anyway. My particular interest is the amount of aircraft movements at the airfield post war, military and civilian including Crop sprayers

Thanks everybody, I have a contact address for Pat Miller, I will have to contact him for more details. There is the possibility that some crop spraying movements may have occurred when the base was still active. The local farmer may be a good source as well.
