Range is not a strong point of the F-22 compared to the F-15s for the same reasons.
Engine-wise the J-20 is still a generation behind and will come close to the F100/F110 of the 80s at best.
What if the WS-15 approached F119 standard, how would that affect the J-20’s range from your previous estimate?
And which reason makes the F-22’s range not a strong point compared to F-15s, engine efficiency? I was under the impression the F-22’s blended wing gave greater fuel volume and its internal weapons lessened drag, improving range.
As a stealth design with internal weaponsbay the range will be similar of a F-15A two ETs. To make use of some supercruise capability it will be even shorter close to a clean F-15A.
And how does the F-22’s combat radius compare?
Because J-20 will almost definitely be above that unless their engines are significantly more inefficient.
(What is the range of an F-15A with 2 ETs and a clean F-15A?)
Oh yeah, forgot about that aircraft — yes that would most likely be 1034 then. Unless PLAAF has a thing for changing engines on prototype aircraft >_>
The 03 prototype for each new variant (again, for chengdu, at least) has the mission avionics installed (can’t give source, but that’s the general consensus over the years).
So yeah, hoping for radar and EODAS and any other goodies to be present on 2003.

And while J-20 isn’t as long as long as F-111, it isn’t that much smaller either. Kinda between F-111 and F-22 length (21m?), with seemingly much more internal volume than the latter. Again, while it isn’t a bomber either it should be able to operate pretty comfortably along the second island chain without refuelling.
For chengdu at least, the 02 prototype of every new aircraft variant seems to be the static testbed yeah — we haven’t seen 1032 yet, nor 1034 I believe.
Video compilation of J-20, J-10B with WS-10A, JF-17 all taking off and landing within the time of a day.

Gawd J-10B looks awesome.
Gives it an unattractive humpback look now :-/
Were they now? The latest rumours say PAF will be getting J-10s with russian engines… We’ll see I suppose.

J-10B with WS-10A… 😀 😀 😀 (Pretty clear it’s WS-10, for skeptics. People, including myself have been watching the rear end of the J-10 for years and it was always Al-31. This engine is clearly different and correlates with the known nozzle of WS-10A.)
… Assuming it isn’t a PS. But I don’t think it is, doesn’t have that smell to it.
Lulzy I doubt any PLAN carriers can be effective against westpac “foreign warships” in the near future — it’s certainly not their role to counter them in the near term.
national security and development’s more accurate. defending sea lanes, far foreign interests etc.
What’s wrong with dark grey? IMO much more menacing than boring white or light grey, that is my biggest peeve with PLAN ships, otherwise really smooth, elegant designs recently.
Dark grey like the USN looks great, and PLAN grey isn’t too exciting but looks pretty professional and sleek. Some of the newer Russian navy ships are alright too (not sure why they keep the orange/brown on their decks and surfaces though). I’m not certain what the AK looks like at present, but at one point it donned this:
😮
At best it looks unattractive, at worst it has the colouring of something you’d find at a junkyard 🙁
Unless it arose from staying at sea too long? But it doesn’t seem like corrosion. Anyway can’t judge taste in colour I s’pose.
Then who said : ” J-20 has a black one does that mean it will be using non aesa or even non ESA?”.is the quoted one NOT part of ur point then? I was answeing the J20 even don’t hv a radar now, how do u know the color of radome and this case should not be mentioned at all.
Oh I see what you mean now. But assuming the 3rd J-20 prototype was wearing the same colours my point would stand.
We can leave out the J-20, even. My point is, does a grey radome on PLAAF and PLANAF fighters mean the aircraft is equipped with an ESA? Does it matter at all? My conclusion is prolly not.
Well Kuz has been around the world unlike poor rusting Varyag, so I think it’s ok :D.
Kuz is getting heavy refit itself, will be an interesting comparison with Varyag when completed.
Hope they give a better paint scheme…
Is J20 nose really that black. Like the color of J11b’s radome? Or because J20 current color scheme is like that dark ?. The current J20 prototype most likely without radar, so it’s immature to say what color of J20 radome is .
My point is asking whether we can speculate what type of radar they’re using just based ok the colour of the radome.
Kind is like how people say just because something’s matte black, it might have RAM coating.
Given her significantly more advanced sensor suite and the fact that the Chinese are building her into a pure carrier(space formerly occupied by Granit VLS has probably been used for hangar expansion), plus the fact that she’s essentially brand new, I’d say she IS in better shape than the Kuznetsov.
BTW, Russian ships are usually referred to as ‘he’, so the correct term would be ‘older brother’.:D
Any real information on where the Chinese plan to go from here? More Varyags? Or some CVF-sized supercarriers with steam catapults?:diablo:
Rumors are they have two conventionally powered CV’s building right now (no idea what stage, but one should be ahead of the other). Also current stance is they’ll have cats–we’ll see in a few years when they become unable to hide them anymore.
