    People…

Only the romantics of the B727 era will dream for such a resurrection. B727-300?? a three engine aircraft? Why bother?

B777 family, A330 family and soon B7e7 family and previously B757/767 families (two-engine aircraft) were and are equipped with ETOPS which allows them to operate atlantic services. Therefore there is no need for a three engine aircraft anymore!

And correctly it was stated that the B757 was created to replace the B727!

Its pitty for that Trident to be destroyed!! Come on now, its part of the heritage of the airplane industry UK once had.!!!

If they want it out of there to gain the space…. Why dont they store it and put it inside Terminal 5 when it will be built.. as part of the “amusement” of the potential passengers that will travel? Something like a Museum?

Terminal 5 will be used by British Airways, so wont that be a nice idea to place the Trident inside there in full BA c/s?

the only operators of Concorde were Air France and British Airways. However, at a time, there was a joint operation between Singapore Airlines and British Airways on the London-Singapore Service, but that was ages ago, it was before FAA finaly give permissio for the concorde to fly to the USA.

That particular Concorde that you saw, was painted with Singapore colour scheme on one side and British Airways colour scheme on the other side.

    Great work Matt

surely it deserves to be seen on the next edition of the AW magazine. However, I think it would be funnier if you had written “I WISH MY WIFE WAS THAT DIRTY….” and below “WELL SHE WAS LAST NIGHT…” the same phrase that Ren wrote earlier

    My friends,

Maple_leaf330, It would be more ideal for Virgin if they maintain their two aircraft type fleet for bargaining purposes. Having bridges with both Airbus and Boeing allows them for having better bargaining power when they will place orders in the future.

Boeing B777 could be ideal for Virgin Atlantic, and if I remember correctly, once they did place an order for B777-200’s but they later either cancelled it or converted it for B747-400’s. Anybody who has a better memory about this may enlight us more.

Having a B777 however may break their ‘4 engines 4 long haul’ slogan. Not only, that it may also damage the expectations of their passengers. I remember sometime back, I was reading an article about Virgin and a spokeman said that the slogan was conceived after making a research that determined passengers prefer to fly with a four engine aircraft on long-haul as they feel more safe. Has that passenger conception changed with the further introduction of ETOPS? This remains to be seen.

Finally, everybody argues that the favourite aircraft from Boeing’s behalf is B777, but why did we all exclude the B747-400ER? Currently, only Qantas operates her.

    My friend,

I had a look at my archive to see what is available. I found this article posted by flight international on 22/7/2003. Basically, what the article states, there is intentions by the two carriers to form alliance on the routes betweeen France and Italy, however there are concerns by the EU that this would create monopoly to the markets.

I have no information about Alitalia’s potential privatisation. However, what is interesting, the airline recently has signed a contract with TURNWORKS, the US consultancy company that is founded by the former Chief Executive of Continental Airlines, Mr Greg Brenemman. The agreements aims for the consultancy company to “support the competitive and commercial positioning” of the airline. Is this an early indication that the ailrine is heading for restructing, to become more profitable, hence an interesting airline to invest by private investors? Time will tell.

Below, I copy pasted the article(s) for reference.

The European Commission denies that it is about to approve the alliance between Air France and Alitalia as claimed by Francesco Mengozzi, chairman of Alitalia, in an interview with French daily Les Echos last week. Competition commissioner Mario Monti says the alliance raises significant problems, notably on the Paris-Rome, Paris-Milan and Lyons-Milan routes, where a near monopoly would be created by the alliance. Monti says these problems need to be addressed, but in general the commission is in favour of such alliances in the airline sector.

Also, I have pasted below another article that relates to the matter.

European competition commissioner Mario Monti is expressing optimism that the proposed alliance between SkyTeam partners Alitalia and Air France will be approved despite his recent comments in Italy that issues remain to be addressed.

A spokeswoman for the EC competition division says Monti has stressed that the Alitalia/Air France link “poses important competition concerns” on routes between France and Italy – specifically trunk routes such as Paris-Rome and Paris-Milan as well as services such as Milan-Lyon.

EC regulators are still examining the proposed alliance but the spokeswoman says that Monti is “optimistic” that a solution will be found in the SkyTeam case in the same way that competition worries within other partnerships have been overcome.

She adds that “some progress” has been made in addressing the difficulties, during regular contacts with the two airlines, but “obviously not enough so as to enable clearance”.

While she says that the EC sets itself internal deadlines for dealing with such cases, the organisation is staying quiet on dates by which it expects to draw final conclusions on the partnership.

Last year the EC stressed to the two carriers that it accepted that there were strong economic reasons for their proposed alliance but that it was worried about their combined dominance on flights between their Milan, Rome and Paris hubs.

    People

it is a very nice and interesting colour scheme for Air France. Surely it is much better than the current, all-white colour scheme that they currently have.

Considering the “trend” followed by many airlines lately to change their colour scheme (like Gulf Air, Cyprus Airways, Northwest, just to name a few), I believe it’s time for Air France also to follow the trend.

However, it would be far better (for marketing and promoting purposes as well) if they introduce their potential new colour scheme, when they will introduce to their fleet the A380. A new “breathless” aircraft… a new “breathless” colour scheme….

    People I have a question.

Are there any differences to the Concorde’s built for Air France and the Concorde’s built for British Airways? I mean were they all built and assembly at the same factory unit, or were there two differnet ones? One for Britain and one for Air France?

It feels like home… being back.

Congratulations to the webmaster and team for all the good work they have done in bringing back our beloved forum to action!

I have to admit I was logged on when the hackers started doing the work and I feel bad that I didnt know they were attacking the site so that I could stop it. I was reading the thread that people wrote regarding airliners.net chasing after the sites that use the photographs without their permission. And i started seeing the svastika signs and i thought it was a joke. I left the site open and I carried out with my work on the thesis, only later to find out something went terribly wrong!!! the forum changed…, it was hacked.

It happened at the early hours of the weekend, either saturday morning or Sunday morning, I m not quite sure.

I never understood what they gained by hacking this site!!!

Anyway, its good to be back

Indiana Jones and the search of the Mystery Airbus

    GreekDude,

I had a look at timetables of OAG Worldwide (it is a database that has available all the timetables of all the airlines around the world per month per year!!!!)

Currently Air Canada operates A330’s, B767’s and from LHR and B747’s so the A340 bird you saw there must be a rare visitor to LHR. I talked with a friend who knows more about Air Canada and told me that because of similarities between A330 and A340, Air Canada sometimes sends an A340 to LHR…

As far as the mystery as to which nationality is that “girl”, I asked him to take a look at the picture and he couldnt figure either if it was an Air Canada or Air France or none.

People is it possible to determine the day the shot was taken? Perhaps it could help us narrow the possibilities…..

People, if you examine closely the picture even further you can see that the engine nacelles look white.. also I believe the belly is white and the grey that we see is just a reflection… so I think we are narrowed to two options

Air France who have white engine nacelles and white (dirty)

Air Canada who I think they also have white nacelles and white “body”

    Flying dude,

You are correct that if an airliner adobted an all-airbus fleet would save some money, by avoiding some training cost and also having one pool of pilot for all the aircraft.

However, you have neglected other overhead costs like maintenance that would be relatively the same if you had a mixture of Airbus – Boeing fleet. An A320 would require its own set of spares, than the A319 or an A330 or A340. Even some older A320’s cannot take the same spares as the newer built A320.

Having a combination of Boeing and Airbus fleet, airlines have a relatively strong bargaining power as they do not rely entirely on one supplier of aircraft. So when the time comes to replace them or expand their fleet size they can get better negotiation terms, than be considered given that an airline is an all-Boeing or an all-Airbus!

I wonder if she will ever fly again, because it appears to be an early Airbus.
