    Let them go to Australia….

If Virgin Atlantic aims to go down to Australia and if they got the permission to go down there, why not? At least will help in breaking the Qantas/BA monopoly and give an incentive for lower fares. However, the battle will be fierce and Virgin must play its cards correctly if it wants to survive on the UK-Australia market.

However, Im confident Virgin will make it up. Assuming of course that the UK-Australia market is a dense and thick market similar or like the London – JFK market where Virgin Atlantic first made its appearance

I wish to Branson all the best for this move.

Lucky guess the route to Australia will be via Singapore since they will have better handling charges by Singapore Airlines (who own 49% of Virgin Atlantic).

If they extend the London – Hong Kong to go down to Australia, it will have an impact to the London – Honk Kong market as they will need to add a couple of more aircrafts.

However, I believe that the stop point (either Singapore or Hong-Kong) will depend on the bilateral agreement alterations made by either Singapore and Honk Kong and if they allowed for Fifth freedom right (which will be preferred for Virgin as fifth freedom right means they will allow to pick up traffic from the point they stop while going down to Australia)

    But, lets not forget SARSS………..

As the worst Charter Liveries I would go for the JMC one and the current TUI livery…. Why did they stop the Brittania Livery? It was perhaps one of the best liveries I enjoyed on a charter airline.

Now, my favourite liveries are and were:

Caledonian Airlines (if it is considered as charter airline)
Brittania Airlines (before the TUI nonsenses)
    Virgin Sun

Current ones I would go for Thomas Cook and also note the new livery of Eurocypria. It is interesting since the four Boeing’s it operates have a different tail colour, i think they are Dark Blue, BluishGreen, Grey and White…

As mentioned the four digit registration for airports is done by the ICAO. However, the four letters mean the following:

Lets use as example LCLK (larnaca Airport) where I am familiar to it to assist us

the first code L designates the region where the airport is situated. ICAO separated the globe to different regions and allocated each with a one letter code. Cyprus is designated at L region.

the second code C stands for the country. C in this case is Cyprus

the third and fourth codes are designating the airport for example LK is Larnaca Airport

There is an ICAO Annex that lists all these codes plus it gives full information on the four letter code. I think its either Annex 4 or Annex 15. Perhaps anybody who knows more on this may enlight us further.

I have to disagree with the statements made by Pembo330.

Airbus will definetly be looking for a replacement for Airbus A300/A310 family. As you will see their forecast, in the near future the market will seek for aicrafts that are at the size of Airbus A300/A310. If you notice, Boeing is developing the B7E7 that more likely will replace the B767 (direct competitor of the A300/A310 family), this can be a clue that there will be a need for the aircraft to the A300/A310 size.

Airbus is facing a challenge as they need to develop a completely new family. Shrinking the A330 even further it will inherint the weight restrictions of its parent (the A330-300), therefore it cannot be considered as an alternative. Placing new technology on the existing frame of A300/A310 is also out of the question.

It is interesting to note that Airbus is loosing ground though as they concentrated their efforts and their investment on the long awaiting A380, neglecting the segment covered by A300/A310 family, giving an advantage to Boeing. By the time they actually decide to do something about it, they may loose the ground. And it is pitty if this occurs because they first entered the segment with the introduction of the Airbus A300 three decades ago!

Finally, it is interesting to note that airlines operating A310’s like Cyprus Airways and MEA replaced these birds with A330-200’s who I believe they can be claimed as the nearest possible substitution (but not an A310 replacement)

it is sad to these birds slowly slowly leaving the skies…..

Continental Airlines are also not doing well, however they are in a better position than our friends United Airlines and American Airlines and once the airline industry recovers (if it recovers) we may see Continental Airlines becoming a major key player both globally and in domestic US market as they have better chances in surviving.

Some news that I managed to collect is that on April they reported a quarter 1 loss of US$221 million. The loss was occured because of a 4% increase in operating expenditure to US$2.26 billion. Operating Revenue increased to US$ 2 billion (a 2.5% increase from last year’s Quarter 1 results) because of improved cargo performance as Passenger Revenues remained at the same levels.

As a mean to reduce operating expenditure the airline has announced the closure of 12 ticket offices in New York, Los Angeles, San Fransico, Phoenix and Illinois. Also the airline is assessign a possibility of charging extra US$10 for every reservation or change of reservation made by passengers from the remaining 35 city offices, but charge nothing if passengers are wishing to use their website as a mean to promote transactions through the airlines website.

Finally, the airline also announced the retirement of four executive Vice presidents as part of the strategy to save US$ 500 million per annum. At least they didnt cut jobs at the lower spectrum like most airlines would do. Perhaps this is the reason why Continental Airlines is so popular among employees and gained their respect!!!!

    Shame for British Airways

If they finally go ahead and cut one of these birds and sell its pieces off, it will prove how desperately they are in financial terms that they are willing to break up this art of technology for the sake of money!!!!

Concorde deserves a better faith than end to the scrapyard, or to the highest bidder or to even to Virgin Atlantic. They deserve to end at museums and proudly display their beauty and what great things human can accomplish.

What I never understood is Richards Branson’s obsession on Concordes. Does he really want to get one or is it just a marketing trick to take the nerves at his Favourite Airline (British Airways)

If he is really serious about it… what profit will he ever generate out of a Concorde? Especially at this period where the Airline Industry (and the global economies in general) are passing through crisis.

Concorde’s are old, and expensive, they had their time, they wrote history, they broke the barriers and revolutionised the airline industry. But I strongly believe their time has passed, and they should retire with grace and glory instead of operating and struggling with Virgin Atlantic.

And remember the Air France 2000 accident.. the older they get… the more likely that will happen again..

I think he is bluffing when he says he wants a concorde..

As with the B762s this a/c is on lease from Air Atlanta for the summer – a 757-225 hmmm wonder how old this bird is – not far off of been 20 i’d say!

You dont ask a lady how old is she.. it is in-appropriate. Whatever her age is, she is still a beauty with nice curves.. better than Liv Tyler 😉 😉 😉

    and this picture….

And some more news regarding the re-branding.

“Developed in co-operation with branding consultant Landor – which has played key roles in the rebranding of BMI British Midland, Varig and Delta Air Lines – the new livery sees the forward fuselage painted gold, with a curved sweep up to the vertical fin while the rear fuselage remains white”.

    Hi,

I managed to find this picture of an iraqi airways trident two aircraft in London heathrow.. unfortunately I was unable to determine when this pic was taken… but more likely during the 70’s.

I learned years ago, that iraqi tridents were stored in the occupied areas of Cyprus, and perhaps they were the reason why the Cyprus Airways Trident aircraft suffered such derelict i.e. to take all vital parts to be used as spares to these tridents. whether these airplanes still exist in the occupied areas of Cyprus is unknown

    Kind Regards

The Search Goes on…. it never ends

    Dear Friends

I apologise for bringing this subject back again on the front line. I know it may be boring, but hopefully with this post you will understand why I am bringing it back to the surface.

After reading the various posts that you were placed, a friend wrote rather suggested that there are other Tridents stored at Ercan (the Airport in the Occupied Areas of Cyprus). I had some information that Iraqi Airways Trident(s) were stored in Ercan, and for this reason the Cyprus Airways Trident stranded in Nicosia Airport was derelict heavily by Turks; in search for spares and other viable

I never had in my possession any evidence to suggest that Iraqi Airways indeed were operating Trident types… until today… I found this picture which I am attaching…. showing an Iraqi Airways Trident Two aircraft on London Heathrow….. the de-relicted Cyprus Airways Trident is in fact a Trident Two example….

Are the pieces of the puzzle slowly slowly put together?

    Kind Regards

P.S if anybody has any information or want to add further comment please post it. I understand that you may consider I am a Trident-obsessed guy… but, werent they beautiful?

it is indeed pitty that Air France keeps its aircraft at that status. I felt sorry for that A340 on the pic A330 posted. Such a lovely aircraft, the most beautiful a/c ever seen (with the exception of Concorde – and even HER) to be treated like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope that they are not THAT bad when it comes to actually maintaining their aircraft otherwise it will be worrying!!!!

Excellent choice, for NWA.. I just hope the airline will survive the crisis so that we see this scheme flying for the years to come….

well done guys, it seems that all of us here have a good sense of colour schemes
