Many thanks guy’s :). It seem’s like I’m on a double hunt now, which I suspected might be the case when I started this. One for the the result of my endeavours as an 18 year old amateur photographer who would dearly love to one day find out about the wingspan I photographed at Buxey, and secondly to find out if the EAG were the group that followed it up and had it recovered. I may even track down my old college mate!
I had always had a liking for aircraft even as a kid and I used to by Flight International (?) as a young teenager. But my passion never “took off” although I always loved and still do love anything aeronautical. Duxford only being an hour away from me now means I can pursue both my hunts!
I shall follow you leads sirs, and once again many thanks!! 🙂

    Many thanks Adrian 🙂

The Essex Aviation Group, I think, rings a bell with me. My mates name was Christopher Going, and although young (19-20) he seemed very clued up about matters, and I’m sure he belonged to a group of similar name. I think he either lived or went to school in Felstead Essex. Be great if someone from that group could respond one day. He had certainly done his homework as we took off from Southend airport in a Cessna (?) with another of his mates as pilot and I sat next to a window that had a little port hole in it just big enough to poke the lens of my second hand Practica camera through which enabled me to take the attached pics. We found the site at low tide almost immediately and circled and banked so I could get the pics. He was delighted with the results and I was chuffed because I had only just started out developing and printing photos as an 18 year old. I have sent the pics to East Coast Sailing which may help them in their story that they covered in April and May last year which you guy’s have kindly informed me about. I await with anticipation to further news on this and may enquire at Duxford about the EAG and it’s existance and recovery work.

Have posted a message to EAST COAST SAILING for an update on their report in April 2012, along with the pic’s which do look very much like the Americam bomber they were researching.

If I remember correctly, and it was a long time ago, my mate who was only about 20, I was 18, needed photographic evidence to convince the R.A.F., or whoever that in fact a wreck was lying there and he wanted to recover it. I think he got his data from ARP reports (?) and weather forcast’s of the time. Thanks for you reply 🙂 I’m all excited !!

    Re BUXEY SANDS.
Sorry if this is the wrong “thread” but I have joined this site today so as to try and get some info on this and the photos above (hopefully ). Perhaps if someone could tell me the best place to post this please? Many thanks.

    Hi Gent’s.
In 1971, or thereabout’s, I took some aerial photo’s of the BUXEY SANDS. for a college friend of mine. I have often wondered what became of the wreck I photographed that appeared to be upside down on the Sands and of which the wingspan and engine mounts are clearly visable. Was it JU88? At the time I think my friend was looking for a Heinkel but really can’t remember…it was so long ago!!!

I have scanned the 2 remaining photo’s that I can find so they would be available for viewing if anyone is interested, but I do wonder if it was ever recovered!
