Sad news indeed, A true gentleman in the very sense of the word, one of the best. Goodnight Bob and thanks for your inspiration.

I know that met plays an issue particularly with the BBMF but I have seen far bigger numbers in far worse weather, and or course ‘back in the day’ the flypasts were quite something. I was expecting to see some comment on PPrune in the ‘Military’ forum but the complete silence on the matter speaks volumes. If THAT really was the best we can muster then its probably time to stop embarrassing ourselves, just ditch everything else and send the Reds, Joe public and the gushing BBC commentators wont know the difference :apologetic:
Westland Scout, currently out and about enjoying the cloudless sunshine to the south and east of Colchester. Part of the soundtrack of my youth when the AAC had some based at the towns barracks.

13:00hrs. Havard IIA G-TSIX bumbling over just to the south of Colchester 1600′ heading W
I secretly have my fingers crossed that as the vast majority of 2, 3 & 7 Para are now based in Colchester…..If it is I wont be far away. :eagerness:
Too far away to properly identify, something 1930’s biplane and sounding “Mothish” came from Clacton direction heading SE to NW over Colchester in the late afternoon sunshine, really crawling into a headwind. 🙂
Of course, I could be completely wrong! But I would hazard a guess that you are probably completely right in this instance. 😉
The last sentence of the report is very telling “It was only providence that prevented this accident from resulting in a catastrophic outcome.” Safe Legends everyone:)
Heavy pistons ( sounds big radials plural ) to the east of me (just south of Colchester), unable to see through the haze. :apologetic:
A gushing Sophie Rayworth on the 10 o’clock news just described it as the biggest flypast over London EVER !
Nice 3 ship Jet Provost formation just south east
of Colchester heading NE
15:45hrs ish. D.H.89 Dragon Rapide G-AIYR o/h Rowhedge heading SE towards Clacton. Presumably heading home to its winter roost.
