A few years ago I stood in Langemark cemetary, looking out down the north eastern slope from one of the German pilboxes, one of our party read outloud the following from a book of diary.
“We sat drinking coffee after a very busy day, my goodness how it rained that night and it was not pleasant.
All we could hear was the rain and the wounded Tommies in the shell holes calling out for their mothers. As the rain fell it ran down the slope and filled the shell holes. By four o’clock that afternoon they cried out no longer, we wept for them.”

One of these, a proper Ford Capri 😉
1962 model, dark bronze brown with a white roof. Cost £145 in May 76.
Bloke drove in the side of me 18 month later and wrote it off, insurance company gave me £40 and “keep the car” which I then broke for spares for £160. The last car I ever sold at a profit………….. wish i still had it.

Joking apart I enjoyed the programme, most of the guests have had really interesting ancestors / family histories but then I guess if they hadn’t then they wouldn’t be featured.
I particularly remember the Jeremy Paxman one. He discovered connections in Suffolk where the head of the house regularly had to ask for parish assistance handouts and eventually three of the children were “exported” into service in Scotland because he just could not find enough feed them.
I think these were on the day
