    It was Mel Brooks indeed.

I respectfully beg to differ  and claim both Orange and the Smarties.

When I was three my nurse told me
    About reincarnation
And ever since I’ve been convinced,
    Thrilled with anticipation
That when I leave this earth
It makes my heart feel warm
    To know that I’ll return
    In some other form.
But I don’t want to be a tree
Sticking in the ground — I’d sooner be a flea.
    I don’t want to be a flower
    Waiting by the hour
Hoping for pollens to alight on me.
So when I cease to be
I want to go back, I want to go back, I want to go back to the sea!
Oh for the life of a sardine!
That is the life for me!
    Cavorting and spawning every morning
    Under the deep blue sea.
To have no fear for storm nor gale.
Oh to chase the tail of a whale!
Oh for the life of a sardine!
That is the life for me

thats better 🙂 a terry’s chocolate orange to anyone who without googleesque aids can identify who wrote it.

Milligan ? Brooks ? nope…..’silent movie’ holds a clue…..I could tell… but fear of being accused of hogging the Limelight holds me back,
aside from that I ate too much chocolate over Easter as it is.

Below is the HM Government DTI site on your rights as an employee, interesting reading for all on this one.
For example…how many of you know that under the law (sections 10 to 15 of the Employment Relations Act 1999) you “have the right to be accompanied by a friend” at a grievance or disciplinary interview ?
So if this right is denied to you or your boss suddenly calls you into their office and then threatens to sack you if you “don’t pull your socks up” they will have probably broken the law ?

She is directly protected not only under employment law but several others. It is her employers responsibilty under the law to ensure that it (they) are adheared to in the workplace.
From the website of my old employ as a full time union rep,
    http://cwusea.org.cwu.ukadslmail.com/bully.bmp

If you can’t read it very well the original can be found here http://cwusea.org/
go to the ‘equality’ pages from the top navigation bar and scroll down to ‘bullying at work’, download and enlarge it.
There is quite a lot of general information on those equality pages which, whilst slanted to Bt of Post Office employees, the points of law are correct and apply wherever you work.

All employees, whatever the size of the company, part or full time are entitled to and should have a contract of employment, a section of which should state the standards of discipline that are expected (not only specific to the company) but also with respect to the laws of the land. It should also contain specific refrence to how breaches of discipline will be dealt with.
If I can find them I will post the links to the relevant sections on the DTI website, they make interesting reading.

As a first step she should (must) write everything down, not only the actions of the ‘offender’ (dates, times, what was said/sent/happened ) but also the re-actions, how it made her feel, those of her colleagues and the action (or lack of at present) of her boss.

I would imagine from what you say that her boss has very little experience of dealing with this sort of thing and as far as they are concerned all that has taken place so far is an informal chat over a small problem.
This is why gathering the evidence is so important because if no action is taken the problem will persist.
Once you have the evidence you can present it formally and then the employer must investigate the situation properly and must take appropriate action.
    IT’S THE LAW !

Try taking the Bt/Yahoo broadband software off the pc and then re load it back on again also if the pc has an onboard dial up modem disable it prior to the above.
Go to ‘control panel’ – ‘system’ – ‘hardware’ – ‘device manager’ and you will see modems icon. Left click on that and the modem will drop down, right click on the modem and a drop down menu will appear where you can disable it.

Just finished (and I am still not 100% sure) ‘Bodies on the Beach’ by James Hayward.
Sealion, Shingle Street and the Burning Sea Myth of 1940.

    Quote from the back sleeve,
“In the whole course of the war there was no story which gave me so much trouble as this one, of the attempted German invasion, flaming oil on the water and the 30,000 burned Germans”.
Rear-Admiral George Thomson, Chief Press Censor.

R.I.P. Dave, thanks for all the laughs, a master of timing to the end.
He would appreciate the irony of his passing on Red Nose Day.

If you check post 153, with “as they were in service” I was quoting someone else.

What we must be aware of though, is that there are no spare undercarige legs (even in the RAF there were not enough legs for the entire Vulcan fleet) for XH558, so it will be an engineering decision on how they fly the aircraft.

I think I can live without seeing another ‘touch and go’ 😀

Then when they realise the displays won’t be as they were ‘in service’ the bookings for subsequent years may be harder to come by, or merely just because the fee will be too high for most organisers, and yet they will still have maintainance per flying hour and crew currency, but possibly only a few bookings coming in from the likes of RIAT etc……

Why exactly won’t the displays be ‘as they were in service’ ?

This thread has prompted me to read again Tim Laming’s The Vulcan Story.
Chapter 8 is devoted to displaying the Vulcan and in it S/Ldr David Thomas describes in great detail how they went about it.
The in service g limits for the airframe were zero negative and +2 positive. The max they ever pulled was in the final 60 degree climb out and that never went beyond +1.8g.
The whole display used the vast amount of lift available and bucketloads of power to overcome gravity at low speeds rather than brute force applied to the airframe.

Bearing in mind that 558 will have been subject to effectively a ground up rebuild by professional aerospace companies it will be in 100% servicable condition and S/Ldr Thomas and his colleages will operate the aircraft in no less a professional manner than before, so why should we see displays that are vastly diffrent to those we remember?

What would be the point of the whole effort if all we are treated to is a few passes staight up and down the flightline ? We, as enthusiasts, and Joe Public will rapidly (and rightly) become bored after a year of two. Whilst I do have gripes about them, I think even VTTS will have taken this into consideration from the outset.
