IF Iraq succedes, the rest of the muslim world will not be able to ignore the fact that America helped Iraq, and the terrorists tried to kill innocents in order to HINDER the success of Iraq.

And that’s why the extremists are there doing what they do.

The only way forward will be with a Total Global Effort, this could have been a chance to do it but rushing ahead ( dressed up to a domestic public on the grounds of WMD) and more importantly without UN sanction was a major error.

It has left the US and UK totally isolated and now in a mire of their own making from which it will be very difficult to withdraw both politically as well as logistically.
The idea was right but the method and timing was completely wrong. It has left ‘the powers that be’ struggling to save their combined political skins, whilst young men and women risk ( and lose ) their lives daily and countless civilians suffer similar fates and for what ? Not the freedom of a nation and it’s people, but in the name of political posturing.
I don’t know what the answer is but I do know that it isn’t what we have at the moment.

Pluto, I don’t think that in either post I mentioned ‘losing’ and I am not about to step into the minefield of a discussion on the US political system

There is no doubt in my mind that Saddam had to go but, it’s the manner that the US, with us in the UK blindly following, went into Iraq that causes me grief. My biggest beef is with the United Nations, even the title is now a joke.
Where exactly are the WMD ?? that’s the whole thing was dressed up as being against. ??
All the whole thing has done is concentrate a focal point where extreamists can find easy targets.

Take it from me, letting off steam is vital, otherwise I can guarentee this will be the result and it’s a lot of work to put it all back together.

whole thing is a complete bloody shambles!

We’d have done better just ‘observing’ IRAQ rather than create this bloomin mess! It hardly as if our own house is in order! 😮

Ahhh, but the George ‘dubbya’ and his associates would have had to start pumping their own oil much sooner wouldn’t they.
If Kerry wins ( he seems to be a good man ) his presidency will be blighted by having to try and pull the ‘west’ out of this mess.

As for Blair well………..the song they played at the victory party when they defeated the Tory’s was M Peoples “Things can only get better”.
This time round the country as a whole should be singing The Who’s “We don’t get fooled again”

I could be wrong but I think that his hasty exit from V6608 took place on the 27th Sept. He is not listed on the CWGC website so we must assume he survived the war.

I think (know) you have a point here.

Honest, decent, human beings know what is right and wrong whatever their chosen belief and in times of trouble we, as human beings, (whatever we choose to adopt as a belief in adult life) tend as a majority to revert to what we were brought up with as children, so quite rightly.. where are the leaders ??
The voice of the Archbishop of Canterbury during the middle of the slave trade ?
The voice of the Pope in the 1930’s during the rise of European facism ?
The voice of the leaders of Islam ?

    ‘cbstd’
You make a great many valid points that are very well put but, just how may I ask do you come to your final conclusion ? China ?? Why ?? If you are right then I think it is many years away by which time thankfully I will be gone.

History may judge “us”, but we seem as a world to be able to learn nothing by it. If you look back in time why does marginal intolerance hold such sway, just as it does in these times ??

We live in an age where the World is so much smaller thanks to to medium by which we communicate now on this thread, why as a world community do we not understand each other better ??

I searched it out, I looked for it on the internet. I found it and then whished that I hadn’t.
I have seen and heard Abu Masab al-Zarqni’s ( if that’s who it was ) speech, all nine and a half minutes of it. I didn’t understand a word of it but the tone of his voice left me in no doubt, no doubt that he passionately believed every word that he spoke.
We have to ask what has led and driven him to do what he did next.

Question the ‘westerners’ motives for being there in the first place but…..

Eugene Armstrong (and now his colleague Jack Hensley) did not die quickly.
This was not a “be-heading” as portrayed in the press, quick as you may think of in the style of Elizabethan axeman, the French Guillotine or an honourable Japanese Samurai.
Grabbed by the hair and held held down by his captors he was cut across the throat with a knife no longer than eight inches.
Eugene took thirty seconds to die, with a smooth edge it takes that long to cut and saw through to the spinal chord, that’s when the breathing stops. It is a sound I never want to hear again.

What drives someone to do that to a fellow human being ? I just cannot comprehend it.

I’m sorry if you find this shocking but my outlook on the human race has been changed profoundly by what I have seen in the last few weeks. Forget ‘Global Warming’, we will have all killed each other long before it becomes a problem if this continues.

As a method of revealing personality this test is actually very accurate.
The scary thing is that it was a recognised and used method (in the not too distant past) to determine degrees of sanity. i.e. did you go free or spend the rest of your days in an institution.
It’s actually only as good as a horoscope.

By the way I met very nice fellow Cancerian on the shoreline not so long ago and I fell in love.
Unfortunately she said that we were just “too together” to work as a couple. What a shame, she had fabulious legs…. all ten of them.

It might only be a ‘bit of fun’ but that was too close for comfort, a while ago another test revealed I was I was Shrek, now it’s happened twice 😮
