Pen Pusher, what have you done to JG891 in photo number 7 of your post? We painted her in a matt finish and yet there she is in your picture in full gloss USA-stylie. Do you have a photoshop pre-set for “Confederate mode”? :dev2:
I’m really fed up with this pile of cr*p. The experience is no longer a pleasure and it’s is taking so long to load still I really don’t feel like I want to visit here anymore. Other aircraft forums WIX, Fighter Control, UKAR don’t offer this frustration service though…
Couldn’t agree more. Everything is slow to load and trying to go back to the main menu takes forever. Looking at a long running thread like Duxford Diary, yes you can use the ” doodad” but that takes you to the last post so you them have to scroll up to find out what’s being talked about. Maybe I’m just a cynical Luddite, but the previous layout was much more user friendly to my way of operating. Many of my Warbird Industry colleagues are saying the same thing but in less pc phraseology…
Following initial operational testing and taxi trials on the ground there were some engineering reasons that required close visual scrutiny of the hub during and after operation. The spinner makes visual and rectification access difficult and as a result was left off to enable monitoring to be fascilitated. All back on now ready for further flight testing…
It is G-BCWL in your photo Archer. Believe me I know as I’ve been in the company and around Duxford for a long long time and have intimate knowledge of V9312. The latter had no wood or fabric covering when we acquired it from Kermit and BCWL was actually painted by us here at Duxford into that scheme when we were operating it on behalf of Brian Woodford.
Hope this clarifies the issue.

Not booked, crew said they just want to get home after two months on set and arriving at DX today would mean another three nights food and accomodation to pay for before the show. I would imagine the film company funding has now ceased and the sooner they get home to their families the sooner the drain on profit made will cease. They will be departing tomorrow one at about 10-11am and the other about 14:00. They do look very good and it was a real throwback to when “Gorgeous George Anne” attended a DX show in 1978 and dripped oil everywhere…
Lovely pictures Brian!

I’m pretty sure you can watch it on youtube.
Here’s the artwork we’ve applied to the port side of PL983. She’s on static display at Cosford this weekend and flew down there with PT462 acting as crew ferry this afternoon.

Yep, I saw them from my garden. What a lovely sight to see over East Anglia again, brings back many happy memories from the ’80’s. What a machine, still not superceded in its role and amazing performance. Back in the day when the USAF used them for airshows they were stunning performers along with those Bitburg F15’s.
It was in 1987 and was flown in formation with Blenheim G-MKIV and Sally B when she had the yellow tail scheme. It was an impressive sight and a real first as far as warbird formations went at The Air Fair.
That’s news to me Daz. Roland Frassinet didn’t like the original deep lower cowling and had Trent Aero fit a standard profile one on his specific instruction as part of the rebuild for him. To my knowledge PL983 has not flown with the deep cowling since it was delivered to Old Warden as G-15-109 by Johnny Jordan. During the ownership of Doug Arnold/WoGB I never saw it fitted with the cowling you mention, though it certainly was in the ownership of that collector and came with the spares from Frassinet. It still exists to this day and was for sale a few years ago. The original windscreen assembly also still exists but is not fitted and is in private ownership elsewhere. It was however utilised for profiles to be taken of the frameless windscreen and rear hoop some time ago.
I agree with you Mk12 about the Buchon article. When all the details and facts are readily available and the story has been high profile due to the sales of these long stored airframes, one wonders how in the modern age, where cross checking with established researchers and type specialists is just a mouse click away, such a piece could be both written and published without the factual inaccuracies being picked up at the proof reading or editorial stage…
Devon roundel question: It’s because it was undertaking filming work for “The Crown” and now it’s back to normal again.
No close-up of the artwork on the fin of PT462?
