Frisco is a very nice seaside city in the vein of Lisboa, Sydney, and San Diego. There is history and culture here and the food and wine is some of the best in the country. The best parts of the city are the north and east coast. The west coast is also very scenic if you enjoy motoring.

Has US already designated Japan as one of the chosen recipients of the Raptor? By 2014 I expect a few of those would have changed hands.

    What accelerated arms build up?

Ever heard of the 600 ship navy? You think the army that won the first Gulf War grew on trees? The rest of your rant is such intellectually vacant diatribe that I seriously doubt you have a grasp on reality.

Reagan helped win the Cold War for America. We don’t all like him but admire him for being an effective President. For the same reason we also admire JFK. The end of the Cold War was a good thing for most of the world. If one Kiwi don’t appreciate it I could care less.

And what exactly did he do to force this abandonment? I doubt there could have been any other result unless the west treated their former ally half as well as they treated their former enemies.

Accelerated arms build up, hardened ideological stance, undermined Soviet war in Afghanistan.

You may not like him, many successful people in history were unlikable, but he made the right calls and was uncompromising when he didn’t need to. That is how you win wars. Another US President, John F Kennedy, was just as uncompromising and ideological with regard to foreign policy. Perhaps you would be more approving of his style of oration. Contemporaries do tend to judge people on style rather than actualy deeds. I think historians will be generous with Reagan.

Reagan deserves credit for forcing the USSR to abandon strategic competition with USA. Of course he didn’t do this alone, we were always ahead of the Soviets, but Reagan gave us a second wind and we pulled ahead even further. The Soviet leaders realized the game was up and sued for peace. Maybe the west would have won eventually, but Reagan won it quicker and conclusively.

What some Reagan supporters try to credit him with and he doesn’t deserve is the collapse of the Soviet Union. Nobody, and I expect not even Reagan himself saw that coming. That was entirely Gorby and Yeltsin’s stupidity, with a little bit of diplomatic finness by George Bush I. I’ve heard it argued that had Reagan presided during the fall of the wall, his antics would likely have caused a Soviet hardline backlash.

Isn’t Delilah the Philistine who betrayed Samson? Why would the Israelis pick such a name?

The opening day for Operation Olympic (invasion of Japan) was to be called X-Day. The naming system seems random and chaotic.

I’d like to see a shark mouth painted on the J-10 intakes.

The ideal airforce for the 3rd World would be UCAV heavy, manned light. If China or Russia can produce good UCAVs that would really revolutionize the developing world air power.
