    RE: The Maybach!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-11-02 AT 00:26 AM (GMT)]Cultural dissonance I suppose, here in America, it’s very cool to be the newly rich. It means self-made man. Old money is not held in the same esteem, for it represents daddy’s money. The latter is to be envied, the former admired. The only thing worse than old money is pretending to be old money.

Hehehe Mickey Mouse. You ruined it, ruined the whole thing. :7

The thing is, if you’re not a citizen of the Commonwealth, being chauffeured around in a Rolls can look very silly. Many American billionaires prefer the unassuming Linclon or Cadillac for instance. Corporate VIPs the world over are comfortable in a Mercedes, so I suspect the Maybach will do quite well.

    RE: VW

An reference to the controversial relationship between VW and Hitler. Not meant to be political, merely ironic.

The Bentley is a superb blend of style and technology. But I can never afford one. Hopefully I can finance this Jaguar version, if they ever get around to building it.

    East Timor

I do think this attack is directed at Australians but it probably has less to do with Aussie alliance with American policies and more to do with East Timor.

Australia’s support for an independent Christian East Timor probably pissed off a lot of Muslim Indonesians. They were humiliated by Australia and you think they like the idea of having their “enemy” living large on one of their islands?

I read that Bali nightclub was off limits to Indonesians. Basically all patrons are white, and the rest are service staff. Imagine what it feels like to be not allowed in a place because of your race in your OWN country while any white person from anywhere is waved in. I can see how perfectly enlightened Indonesians would be seething, let alone a religious extremist.

It’s rather interesting Australians would immediately blame their woes on US policy with Israel. After all, only self-centered ugly Americans could piss people off right? Inconsiderate Australians? Never.
