From the latest “Aircraft Illustrated”, test pilot Magnus Olsson says he expects the Gripen NG to reach mach 1,2 in “air to air configuration” without afterburner.

To give an input on the cost of the F-35, they actually undercut the Swedes offering 48 fighters, at 20 billlion Nkr, for the Norwegian defence contract.

The gripen offer was 23 billion.

None of the offers contain lifetime support or weapons, as i understand it.

Its pretty clear you really have no idea what the US armed forces is capable of. Good. Stay ignorant of us. Fear us.

    Good !

Then we can pull our troops out of Afganistan, since the US scream for troops is just BS.

A small addenum to the weight/space issue. Hydrogen is actually lighter than air, and a lot lighter than avgas, thus a fully fueled aircraft will be lighter than an empty one.

You will need larger fuel tanks tough, perhaps something like the “Guppy” ?

I am all for the Gripen, so that argument isnt well founded.
Your article only quote what someone “think” is the noisiest, based on number and size of the engines.

My input however is based on stories in all major newspapers and TV.

Personally i have seen F16 and Gripen take off within 30 secconds from 200 yards, so i know there is a huge difference.

Nevr heard the Typhoon or Fat Noddy tough.

One engine versus two… I do imagine that the swedish fighter itΒ΄s a litle bit, teeenienenenweeenieiie less noisy than the bug… πŸ˜€

The Gripen visited my hometown a few years ago, and i can assure you, its loud as *Β€#*
Infact, a recent study says that a investment of more than 1 bilion dollars in base modifications due to noise, if Norway select the Gripen.

One thing not mentioned so far is noise pollution. In February, we vote about jet noise free touristic dependent areas. If the people agree, that means training flights over touristic Switzerland are over. People dont like the loud Hornets taking off in narrow valleys in full afterburner.
So the noise problem is pretty important.
That probably rules out the SH, among other factors.
The question about the Gripen is its dependency on American parts, without that, I’d say its a done deal. To replace the Tigers incl. Patrouille Suisse duty, as many airframes as possible are needed

The Gripen has the same engine as the F18, and it is a noisy aircraft.

No, this is till confusing you. Oil is the backbone of the world economy, we are all dependent upon it thus singling out the US is americphobia on your part.

So, in your line of reasoning, the oil cuts that HAVE to come, must be done in places like Germany and India ? 😎

Funny tough, while the USAF has been more than villing to share the raptor’s score on all other fighters, still nothing about the EF.

I have been off this thread for a moment and now I cannot believe my eyes. During the Cold War times Russians were said to be able to blow up the entire planet 5 times (or is it just 2-3 times now?), but judging by the reponses here it looks like smashing one US aircraft carrier is still an unreachable task for them. πŸ˜‰

    Weird….

Yes, they can sink US carriers.

Hmm…. You started out with 6 carriers, now you are up to 10, LOL.

Who told you they only have 20 tomcats ?

    How many are “a few” mig29 ? 7, 13, 60, 150 ?

    F4 ?

    F5 ?

    A-50 ?

Go and find out the standard air wings of USN carriers, multiply by 6+ then compare to the Iranian air force inventory. Then add the B-2 and B-1B to the scenario.

Still matching your sortie rate(unless you want to park the carriers on the beach)
