I don’t think so, after comercialization abroad of R-27P1/EP1 (export versions), Vympel is not really interested on the ALAMO any more.
R-27T didnt run with MCGU, it’s LOBL. MICA IR did receives MCGU so it could be a LOAL weapon.
The Mirage 2000-9 also carries the Shehab infrared/laser navigation and targeting system (a UAE version of Damocles) and the Nahar navigation pod. Many key components-including the modular data processing unit (MDPU) mission computer-are drawn from the Rafale. The Mirage 2000-9’s integrated multimission electronic warfare system (IMEWS), developed by Thales and Elettronica, is characterized by French engineers as a targeting-capable system, with more precise and faster range measurement capabilities than the Rafale’s Spectra, allowing the aircraft to perform defense-suppression missions.
Why?
Tmor, accord to Bill Sweetman’s article “Killer Angels” on JED, IMEWS offered better DF accuracy allowing “DEAD Targetting” over Spectra.
Any comments on that?
Let return to our loved Rafale.
I know Rafale’s SPECTRA suite uses “phase interferometry processing” for its ESM subsystem.
Now, that explains pretty nice and well the 1ยบ DF accuracy claimed by the system, but did the ESM subsystem allows any “geolocation” capabilitie at all?, TDOA, TFOA, PLAID, two-three aircraft triangulation or any other one?
Comrads!!
We should discuss RAFALE on this thread!!!
We have been talking about “LPI”, why per example we don’t discuss, what should LPI properties should a radar have?…
Let me present some of them accord to most valid radar literature:
* Sidelobes of -55 dB over mainlobe peak gain
* Power management over a dinamic range of 70 dB (or 10.000.000)
* Coherent integration with bandwidth-time products of at least 4 x 10 6.
* Instantaneous bandwidth of over 2 GHz, hopped bandwidth over 6 GHz.
* Frequency agility/stability fully coherent over 1:1012
* Dynamic waveform selection.
* Low peak power, high average power, tracking with SnR of 3 dB.
* Multifrequency search, multibean with at least 6-9 channels.
* Spread Spectrum datalink with adaptive waveform, at least 300:1
* PRF variations of 30 dB (or 1000:1)
* Pulse Width variations of at least 8000:1
* Bandwidth variations at least 20 dB (100:1)
* Datalink Chip width with variations of 100:1
* Integration Time with variations 10:1
* Number of compression codes of 10 5 althrough 10 20 is feasible.
That’s a LPI radar under current trends…
You could see a lot of radars could fullfil some of those properties…per example, power management is not a problem neither to an AESA nor to a traditional PESA/MSA, with TWT, power management was pioneerized with TPS-32 in 1976!…most current radars introduces some form of power management, that even involves RDY-2, or AN/APG-70 per example.
Ultra low sidelobes are also feasible, per example N-011M Bars fulfills that (those sidelobes need the electronic scan FoV to be limited if you don’t want to have big sidelobes, in fact, most feasible FoV for AESA/PESA is +/-60ยบ…Zaslon is weird case with +/-70ยบ in azimuth).
Bandwidth and coherent integration is terrible difficult to implement due to pretty extensive and hard processing needs…
So…how did RBE-2 adheres to this?
Interestingly, 9M96 was developed first for naval use, it was envisoned that typical 48N6 kind of missile (heavy and cumbersome) would not be pretty useful neither flexible for ship use.
That was the main reason behind the low-weight reduction and they made a good work!
Please just fo on!
Regarding 22350 what would You like to know? The main AA suite will be Redut with Poliment-K APAR-like radar and 9M96 missiles. VLS Shtil-1 will be for export only. Redut will be also on second 22380. But it’s a long wait till 2010 or 2011 when we see it
Well, you mentioned a par of details I don’t know:
A) So what is Redut? missile complex name for the naval use 9M96?. What versions of 9M96 would be used?
B) Is there any info on Poliment-K radar complex?, who is developing it?, what ship would be the first system prototype?
C) Any info on the number of VLS for Redut and ASuW weapons?…is there any info on sonar/helicopter numbers?…

This appeared on last CAST’s Moscow Defense Brief issue:
Project:
Project 971I Irbis SSN
Name
Nerpa
Cost per unit, million USD
N/A
Notes
Begun in 1986. Might be destined for Indian Navy
Producer
Amur Shipyard
Seems like “Irbis” is some now cool name…remind that the 971 was nicknamed “Bars”
What can our Navy fanboys tell us on Pr 22350 Frigate?:p
No in the soviet times. Not yet IIRC.
In the second world war, yes.
What can you comment us on the flight profile of the EtAF Su-27’s pilots?, from what aircraft they went?, how many hours did they fly? where did they trained?.
Let’s give it in an easy way:
ELS allows you to detect emitters (radars) in the ground with high precission, not only showing you the bearing, but also a very good aproximation to its range. It allows you to plot in a map (or display) the localisation of ground radars, so to allow you to use anti-radar missiles with high effectiveness. It also gives you a lot of details on the different emissions, and it allows you (in theory) to detect those radars that are not pointing towards you (sidelobe detection). It works in a way similar to an ESM, but it uses advanced procession techniques, like radar interferometry in phase and so.
RWR is a more simple device, it mostly only shows you information about radars sweeping you (mainlobe detection) and gives you few details on them.
This is a very very generic aproximation off course.
This E business is for public consumption imo. But if we talk to folks in the business, Russian firms are basically exporting items which are not even in service at home, and nor is the lag between external items and russian ones so large that they can fit in an export variant in between and still meet customer demands. Eg if Russia were to offer a downgraded N035E, versus a full spec N035, India would seriously evaluate offers from SELEX and ELTA or codevelopment methods to come up with a more potent system. Thats the way its happening.
Yes, even see that the russians will only start the Zhuk-M R&D from next year for their own MiG-29 upgraded!…how can Zhuk-ME be an export variant (downgraded) of something that doesn’t exist?
Now russians use the export basis of R&D for developing and finishin their own projects. Check the N-001 evolution:
N-001—>N-001E (export) —>N-001VE (R-77 export) —> N-001VEP (ATG modes/R-77 export) —> N-001V (russian standard with upgrades)
