    ive picked up a few wheels/tyres from farms across the UK over the years. i still have a DH Hornet and a Vampire main wheel kicking around. they had been used on farm carts up until the point where they get a punture. then no one in the area can fix them so they get dumped. the best find was when i got 4 DH Hornet wheels/tyres for £20 about 10 years ago.

    i know where one crashed into a mountain in North/West Wales. theres a few tiny bits to be found in amonst the rock and heather.

    good question really coz ive never even thought about it myself. you would think they are tempered like a sword to withstand all the forces put upon them.

    you have to take into account that alot of airframe components were subcontracted and the brought together for final assembly at various places all over the country and world. some were already painted and others not, except for perhaps a primer undercoat.

    i work at restoring/respraying things for a living and even with modern equipment i can have 3 different suppliers send the same coded paint and all 3 be quite different in tone.

    its tucked away in the shed at the mo but i was told it was the bomb bay doors open/closed indication lights. i will have a shufty a little later

    had a shufty. numbers on the backing plate 244940iss1. theres something on one of the light tubes at the rear but its mostly worn away

    WOW well cool. all you need to do now is to turn it into a panning motion of about 200mph and capture something with wings. great shots though

    nice Mustang type gun camera!

    the guy only ever worked on “HEAVIES” so i assume that was of a B24?. i know that some parts worked across a range of aircraft though
