you will notice the silence when they are gone. i used to love watching the Tornado`s taking off at night when i was at Coningsby, they made a hellava racket but the twin afterburners stabbing the dark looked fantastic.

    V. Unusual as they were all retired two years ago – one is at the FAA Museum store, one at AAC Museum store (Awaiting permission from DGSF to be displayed) and the other two are in use as instructional airframes!

Could it have been one of their Dauphins?

Probably one like this that was around and back n too all weekend including Friday over the North Wales/Shropshire borders.

    what is it exactly?

in theory you could kick the tires and light the fires but it all depends how far you want to go and what you are going to do with the aircraft and also if you want to live??

A lot revolves around the wing spar and general hours the airframe has done as also any engines fitted. theres loads of different pressures put on an airframe in flight/landing and also on the ground that wear it down and give a “fatigue life”..

some of the RAF Tornado`s i worked on in the past had different fatigue lives, some had plenty of straight line supersonic life left before a major service but were limited to the amount of “G” they could pull in a twisting turning flight. others were the opposite way around.

besides all the rubber grommets, seals etc that would have to be replaced if you want to keep all your fluids where you need them most theres the mish mash of controls and wiring that keeps you in command and help steer your way.

it could be done but i would bravely volunteer someone else to test the thing you want to see fly lol
