my workshop is linked via a mobile phone + motion sensor to tell me is anyone has got into my shed, its set up to ring the person i personaly know who`s nearest that has agreed to have their phone on. never had it used in anger yet and never hope it happens.
just a couple or three shots to add to your collection. taken 1998 era RAF Kinloss
I flew there a few times c.1969 with the AEF (Chipmunks) and we snuck into the fire compound where I “acquired” a Varsity control yoke and a pal had the stick out of a Vulcan (I think it was an anti-flash white Vulcan?) – he getting the better deal! I tried to get the stick out of a Javelin but failed.
I seem to recall that the Army blew the landing gear off the Vulcan to sit it on its belly as it was unstable – but that may be false memory syndrome!
Anyone got any pics of those aircraft 1969/70?
the only Vulcan (XM657) on its nose was this one. a hole had been dug and the nose leg lowered into it
hey Chitts have you ever seen this edition of Aeroplane Monthly from February 1998?. theres a realy good little story in there and just by chance i read it the other night before this post came up. well worth getting hold of a copy as it covers the recovery of G-AEFT also. i pinched the photo`s from within
if you have a look at the burnt out Victor engine air intake then look at the remains of the other aircraft underneath you can see the shape of the outer edges are the same pretty much, as is the shape of the wing at that point.
in the past when i have stood there with my tripod and argued the point on the heath n safety issues when there is hardly anyone around they counter argued saying they did not know if i was a professional photographer going to use the images for commercial gain.
Can you tell me the ID of the Hunter?
forgot to add that one sorry
and thats it
a few more to horrify you
name the airfield and it may help narrow down the list down on the types of aircraft?
i think thats her in the background although i seem to remember 2 being operated aboiut this time.. this is not long after they scraped LF of the runway. the Auster belonged to PA474`s nav. i think his name was SQN LDR Bob Burden ?. i was half way through spraying the Auster at this point
i got a few hours in that old thing when i was on BBMF – bloody marvelous….
mick
me too when ever i had chance. i was a paint shop lad in GEF in the 1990`s
🙂 Alan and Rob,i like those alot.Blimey Alan i admire your patience with the use of acrylics-well done 🙂
many thanks for the compliments. my works acrylic also (except for the pencil work). im a novice with using colours and this is my total amount of acrylic work so far except for my DH88 Comet (not shown). it is amazing the amount of styles from artists when using just acrylic. my work is quite rough n ready when compared to Alans though.
my trouble is im constantly chopping and changing.. it takes me ages to finish a picture. the Lightnings getting there bit by bit lol
forgot to mention the UFO that crashed in the Berwyn mountains in the 1970,s. not that anyones found a bit from it
BEAT THAT ONE LOL
